Syringing your ear is not a good idea, nor is it a good idea for doctors to do it without knowing what the cause of the problem was in the first place. A few years ago I had a blocked, ringing ear and took myself to the doctor who prescribed drops to loosen the wax. Ear didn't not improve, when I went back it was still full of wax but there seemed to be a hole in the wax so I was told to continue with the drops. Went back with no improvement, regular docter wasn't there, the other doctor decided to syringe my ear. Unblocked it for a little while and it went straight back being blocked and very painful. I think it was syringed one or two times more, each time it came back even worse. On my last visit I saw a third dr who yelled at me for sticking tissues in my ear, wouldn't listen to me that I didn't and that it was too painful to stick anything in my ear. Decided to try a different surgery. First thing the dr there did was take a swab and send me straight to a specialist. Turns out I had a fungal problem and it had been caused or made worse by the syringing. I was told to put tinea drops in my ear (Caneston brand) and had to see him once a week. Over time my ear improved and he eventually found the original problem - there was a polyp so organised surgery. I had a pre-surgery appointed the day before it was booked and at that one he had found that the polyp had come away by it's self. Then he noticed tissue like substance in my ear and told me that my ear does not shed skin like normal, it comes off in sheets.
I hope my story helps you. Also I was told not to let water in my ear at all, wear ear plugs while showering or swimming. I remember at that time I used to releive the ear by immersing it while in a hot bath.
