It is different in everyone. Diet may be enough but it really comes down to your immune system. Medication may do it but will also weaken your immune system to some degree over time. Drinking a lot of milk is also not really that good for you. For me, I used to eat all lysine rich foods and nothing that was high in arginine for a long time without any results. I'm doing the Bob Beck protocol now and finally am clearing up. The few outbreaks I am getting now are fading in a few days. I'm only on week 2, so I will update, but this, and a clean diet and exercise, is the only thing I've found to work so far. The upside is, you get to work on health and happiness. The downside is, you have to change your behaviors and lifestyle.
So, you can try the lysine, and if that doesn't help, keep throwing everything at it, till you find something that works. Don't go too crazy on the lysine though because you do need arginine for muscle growth or something and your immune system will eventually weaken from copous amounts of lysine.
Exercise, try yoga and mediation, and try to get rid of stress. Lay off the orange juice and tomatos and crappy wheat products. Try amaranth, quinoa or some other grains that are higher in lysine than arginine.
The only thing that has helped me topically, is Herpecin-L and some other one, I can't remember now. You can try those, but don't leave them on all day. You want the spots to remain dry so they can heal on their own.
Good luck, take it easy, you'll find something. It's really just a weakend immune system that is at fault here. You may try some
Liver Flushes to a high degree of success. Remember, it's overall health that you want to attack, not just this small virus.
