I just wanted to post a message to tell everyone that I was diagnosed with herpes about 15 years ago. I have been one of the lucky ones that has just experienced the "first time" breakout in the genital area and since have just had really hideous coldsores. Literally it looks like someone punched me in the mouth and it stays that way for at least a week. If anyone else gets bad coldsores, the best thing I can recommend from personal experience is Valtrex (you need a prescription) and Herpecin (it is a lip balm sold in the same section as Chap Stick and Blistex).
One thing that I am concerned about is telling my next partner about my "problem". Can anyone give me any advice on how to approach this and how far along in the "relationship" should it come up? I just don't want to freak someout out if it is not necessary. Thanks for your help!

You should tell before kissing or sexual activity. Don't use the word herpes, just say you have the cold sore virus. If the person like you for who you are there shouldn't be a problem.
The only restriction is that it kills sexual spontaneity. By the way is it oral type 1 or genital type 2 you have? I had girlfriends who had type 1 and never got a cold sore. Unfortunately, I got herpes 2 from my wife last year, and have had many painful genital outbreaks. My wife didn't know she had it. - Re: I know what you are going throug... Johnny Vegas

MoreThis is a reply to # 371,320My advice is to try coconut oil - it is a lot cheaper and more powerful than the prescription medicine, and with no side-effects.
Try it and compare against the drugs. Post back your experiences - you could help a lot of people.
Coconut oil kills lipid-coated viruses (such as herpes type 1 and 2) on contact. I have personally tried it on cold-sores and have had fantastic results - the cold-sore didn't even appear! That was 6 months ago, I've been waiting for another outbreak ever since.
Take it with food, and apply it topically.

This is a reply to # 371,320I am not sure what advice to give you. If you are in a big city you could try the personals where you date someone who also has herpes, or at least the cold sore variety. I frankly haven't dated since I have had this, but would consider that if I find no way to get this in remission.

I hope you still check this site out. Can you give me some tips on how to live with HS2 in mouth? I am very depressed to have it in my lip than lower part. You know how it is. I just don't know how much longer I can take this suffering. I can't let people know what illness I am having, lied about what illness I have, can attend a lot of social gatherings if there is outbreak in lip. I want to die.
