This is what I found on line....
"Agent Orange is a chemical compound called 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-doixin, or TCDD. The compuond consists of 2,4,5-trichlorophenoxyacetic acid and 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid. Agent Orange was manufactured in the United States in the 1930's and soon after was discovered to contain an unidentified toxic chemical. Originally, the herbicide was used in clearing forests to "construct houses, buildings, industries, etc. Soon in the 1950's and 1960's other countries started using Agent Orange. Canada began spraying the chemical to further develop their industries. The British used Agent Orange in Malaysia to make clearings so travel and communication would be easier. At the end of World War II in 1959 the chemical compound was used for military purposes as a defoliant to clear away wide areas of defense foliage and expose the enemy. Agent Orange was dumped on four square miles in the war from an airplane(Freiman pp.33-40)."
