My 12 year old son was diagnosed with Crohns Disease within the last 3 months. He's had a catscan, GI series, 2 colonoscopies, and endoscopy, a lactose test and bloodwork done at Mayo Clinic which showed Crohns markers. He is on Pentasa (8 pills a day) and is in the process of tapering off of prednisone right now. He still has some discomfort, bloating, gas and slight cramping occasionally. He has never had regular diarrea, only during his flare up (first one) in December which started this whole journey. He mostly has spasms or cramping to the left of his belly button (his "hot spot" as we call it) and the gassy/bloated feeling. After seeing this book online, my husband ordered it and we are awaiting it's arrival. Is this okay for kids? I am concered about weight loss that he cannot afford to lose. Although it will be a tough thing to stick to for a 12 year old (hanging out with friends stuffing their faces with junk!) I'm hoping the pain-free gut will make it worth the sacrafice. Also, is there an online support group for kids with IBD?
