it must have taken great courage for you to share that with us... and i for one... am grateful and appreciate you for doing so... but the only thing i ask of you is to not let your prejudice against AA blind you to what has proved to me and countless others to be an absolutely wonderful way of life... the theme of the 12th step is "the joy of living"...
i haven't had a drink since 2/4/92... (not meant as a boastful brag... merely to show you and others that AA does work)...i've been involved in AA since 85... at one point in early sobriety i had 5 1/2 years abstinent... and yet still found a justifiable reason to get drunk... an accident that took a friends life proved to be to much for me to handle... i blamed God... and i got drunk... so... from that i deduced that longevity (many years of abstinence) has nothing at all to do with sobriety... for true sobriety is "soundness of mind"...
AA is not just abstinence... (in the beginning it seems so)... but in reality the purpose of the program is "a design for living"... the whole point of the program is to learn to grow along spiritual lines... to find and to live with dignity...character... honesty... honor... ethics... morals... forgiveness... and strive to help my fellow man... these are some of the proven benefits of the program... and such silly things as these... i never knew existed before... and this is just me talking... but i would not trade my worse day sober for the best day i ever had drinking...
my dad quit alcohol for the last 10yrs of his life... on his own... but on looking back i see with regret all of the wonderful benefits he missed by not having been involved in AA...
no one with any length of time in AA will ever try to push the program off on anyone that does not want it... so you are safe... you never have to go to meeting... and you will never have to wear the label of being called an alcholic... or endure the stigma attached to it... so... it seems you have been spared of being a part of AA... and whether or not that is a blessing or a curse... time will tell...
i am sure i speak for all of us in AA when i say... "we are happy for you"...
"it's a wonderful day in the neighborhood"...
lol...
