Well I recently came off my first 11-day MC. I tried to end with a 2-3 day water fast, but became extremely weak after 1 1/2 days... I wasn't sleeping well, and today when I got up, I could barely walk to the kitchen! I then decided to stop the water fast, and immediately proceeded to drink some Organic Apple Juice (I didn't have any oranges, and I felt too weak and lazy to squeeze Grapefruit juice). Well I drink an entire
quart in that one sitting, and man did it feel good! Then I realized something. I had done
Water Fasts before up to 3 days, and I never had felt as weak as this one even 1 day into it. In fact, with prior
Water Fasts I actually felt pretty good for the most part.
So I thought about it, and I realized that perhaps my body had become used to all the
Sugar from the 11 days of MCing. I calculated
Sugar consumption with the Maple Syrup, and it was close to 300 grams/day, and this is using the avg amount of syrup suggested/day!! So I'm thinking, did my body become accustomed to all that sugar, and that's why the
Water Fast made me so weak and the Apple Juice made me feel so much better (A
quart of AJ contains 120grams of sugar)!? Keep in mind, I have never had a sweet tooth prior to the MC, and hardly had any
Sugar in my diet other than from fruits. I would also like to note that during the MC, I expeienced a lot of mood/energy swings. As soon as I felt low on energy, I would just keep drinking more & more maple-lemonade, which seems like a dependency issue to me. In contrast, my energy tended to be a lot more stable throughout water fasts. Sure there would be days that I would feel slightly less energetic, but with the MC, it just felt like my energy would be up & down, up & down throughout the day.
I always had suspected the excess sugar consumption requirements to be a flaw of the
Master-Cleanse program from the beginning, but I decided to try it anyway. Yes, you could drop done the amount of maple syrup, but then we're talking dangerously low calorie content per day, and add on to that a likely major lack of energy! I'm thinking of doing Juice fasts in the future, which seem safer, and hopefully equally as effective. What are all your thoughts on this?
