i was arguing last night with a calvinist. they pulled the usual reaction to someone challenging their doctrine. its so predictable, like the steps of grief. first they charged me with not using scripture. this is because if i do use scripture then i get accusations of the fact that satan used scripture too or no personal interpretation is allowed or some other abuse of scripture and logic. when this didnt get me to kowtow, then im accused of demons. of course, demons. they accused jesus of demons. i get it. then finally (and mercifully for me) they pull out, having no real foundation for their doctrine except men and traditions, and use titus 3:10 on me. more abuse of the word of god.
1 Peter 3:14-16 Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)
14 But and if ye suffer for righteousness’ sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled; 15 but sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: 16 having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.
see, it doesnt say "whip out some awesome scripture on them" or anything like that. it says to tell of the real relationship you have with the creator in your heart. have i ever seen that on curezone? very little. less than a handful of people have had the courage of their convictions. agreement is not necessary for that kind of exchange and i have never demanded that anyone accept my take on the bible. conversely, no one has presented a credible challenge to it either; just maniac preachers in youtubes and crap from gotquestions, which is all they got considering there are no good answers there. very little personal. some have feigned, but no way to dig deep when that happens. nothing real, just feelings they have. i have feelings too, but they dont determine my relationship with the father. my bible has the father saying "come and let us reason together" which is way better than transient (and highly questionable) emotions.
and as for the proper use of scripture:
2 Timothy 3:15-17 Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)
15 and that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
yes, i have known the scriptures since a child. the scriptures are never there to tell you that you are right. there are never to be used as a justification or otherwise excuse for ones own behaviour. and it is not there to be twisted as satans and devils do to use as a weapon against other people. it is there for your own personal use to get your doctrine from, reprove you, correct you and instruct you in righteousness. therefore, knowing that there are none who are righteous, its never there to tell you how you are right. its there to tell you how YOU ARE WRONG.
thus ends the sermon.
