If you've ever had parcels taken or not arrived then it can cause great disappointment especially at Christmas. If the parcel is registered as delivered then it's very difficult to get your money back. One man decides enough is enough....
That was so unbelievable. It's hard to believe that many people steal packages. The second thief really upset me because he had a cross hanging in his car. Really guy?
Now if I could be just as ingenious as this guy and come up with a way to catch people dumping trash and animals on my property. I would love that. I thought I caught such a person one day. I saw someone stop on the side of the road on my property and I saw him take out something out of his car. I quickly got in my car and drove to where he was. All the while getting my mind made up how I was going to address the problem. Low and behold I get closer and notice the guy did indeed have an animal in a cage that he was getting ready to release.... as I inspected closer, it was just a wild opossum that he had captured and was releasing. As I paused beside his car...I just smiled and gave him a thumbs up and drove away. So much for my "catch em". :)
If you are asking (using the same scenario as my dumping story), how I would handle confronting a man on my property that was stealing from me, I would have to say that I would get in my car and drive past until I got his license plate number and then follow him, if possible. There use to be a way to look up license plate numbers online...not sure it's still there. Could get his name and report him to the police. Best to do all the leg work and present it if possible.
Just as a correction, so it makes more sense, and because in this forum I can't correct what I have written, I wanted to state that I meant to say "pets"...not animals. I didn't want people to dump pets like cats, dogs and such that can not survive out in the elements like that. I was ok with the possum, they are wild animals that know how to live in those conditions. I was basically making fun of myself for being excited about "catching em" and the situation not being what it seemed.
Well at least he was putting it back to the wild, some people would have killed it. I can just imagine you putting on your Sherlock Holmes hat, I am the same, ready to investigate at all times!
Well, just like the video stated...the police will not do anything on small cases like that. It's so time consuming and very seldom enough evidence to prove anything. You do have to be your own Sherlock at times. They can't really do anything about pets being dumped either, because there are usually no clues, unless the animal is chipped or has tags.
So with so many people coming to our little piece of heaven and dumping their trash, pets, furniture, old tires, mattresses and such, it gets really old. You have to manage their stuff and haul it off or find homes for the pets, just because we can't catch them in the middle of the night.
Someone dumped a dead calf on the side of the road last week and I just assumed that it belonged to my relatives who raise the same type of cattle...but they said it was not theirs. The only clue was it had been dead longer than how long it had been there. So we know someone dumped it, but no clues as to who. Probably someone who had it penned up and no land to take it to the back parts to let the coyotes eat it. So even the dreaded coyote has his purpose.
So we had to live with a rotting corpse nearby for a while until the buzzards and coyotes finally picked it's bones clean. There was one thing that happened that was really exciting though...and that was I witnessed for the first time, two young eagles getting their fill. I didn't know we even had eagles around here. Fortunately our national symbol mostly likes dead animals or fish. So much better predator to have around than most.
What sort of Eagles? Do you know? That's awesome. Fancy someone dumping a dead calf, I should think you do get fed up with people unloading their stuff on your doorstep.
I've never seen a coyote in real life, are they dangerous to humans or just wildlife?
I think a Bald Eagle, but it did not look exactly (feather wise) like what I think it should look like. When it comes to birds, the females and the younger ones can look different in the coloring and placement of their feathers. Plus some have different coloring in the winter than in the summer. So I'm not sure, but the vivid white feathers really stood out. My relatives have seen them as well, and said they thought they were eagles, but what kind, we are not sure.
Coyotes didn't use to attack people very often. They were afraid of people, but unfortunately these days they are living in our towns and roaming at night and come across humans all the time, so they have lost their fear of us. So yes, they can attack, but normally they just go elsewhere. So many houses are being built these days, they have fewer places to roam for food. So coming in contact with humans will continue being an issue.
