After talking to an old friend, I realize my biggest advice is to take charge of the big three. Immunity, inflammation and gut health. Of course, being a nutritionist, I prefer to do this with food, because as I said before, you don’t know what will knock you out of whack.
I do three things.
For immunity, I take a mushroom called Turkey Tail. Turkey Tail has actually been studied by the NIH, as it has shown to greatly enhance the immune system for chemo patients. Google it. I buy it from Host Defense, which is owned by Paul Stamets. Google him too, he’s so interesting.
For inflammation, I make a smoothie out of kale, ginger, pineapple, tumeric, black radish and moringa. Moringa is a surprising leaf with a motherload of anti inflammatories.
For gut health I eat fermented foods, but recently found it really loaded up in my blood pressure and kidneys. So I buy the best probiotics I can and hope for the best. I still eat fermented once a week.
I do some other goog-able things, like put some chorella in my water every day. I still Oil Pull and can attest to the benefits in the dentist chair. No oil pulling will not remneralize your teeth, but its great for getting all the nasty bacteria out of your soft tissues in your mouth. I was surprised to see WebMD actually had good things to say about it, we’ve come a long way from 9 years ago.
Detoxing is not always a good thing. Sometimes its your bodies way to say STOP. People will tell you to soldier through things, and sometimes you can, but you gotta be curious about what your body is saying.
And lastly, as much as I hate Western Medicine, going in for blood tests and an exam won’t kill you. Remember, you are boss of your body. As long as you feel clear about that, you make the decisions. I know most blood tests are inadequate, but at least it gives you a baseline. I found out I was terribly deficient in Vit D, and was grateful to find out. Advocate for yourself.
Anyhoo, just some thoughts talking to my old friend.
Be well.
