My symptoms all started following a cold. I had been using a nasal spray for a stuffy nose. I began experiencing butterflies in my stomach, and it progressed to severe insomnia, heart racing, difficulty breathing, panic, tremors, nausea, a hard and burning feeling in my stomach, difficulty concentrating, blurry vision, headaches in back of head, etc. etc. I went to the ER one night for the tremors that lasted an hour, and was told I had a panic attack. I followed up with a doc, and panic attack again confirmed after blood work came back normal. A moment of clarity made me realize that the symptoms increased after I used the nasal spray. I ended up thinking it was the active ingredient as it is a stimulant. The symptoms mostly went away after I discontinued the spray, but stomach issues lingered. I take imitrex a couple times a month for menstrual migraines. The morning after I took one, I woke up with vertigo that lasted for 6 hours. This has never happened before. The next 2 weeks, I could not sleep. I slept every other night for just a few hours. I was eating cabbage, onions, and garlic. I finally learned that high sulfur foods mobilise mercury, and it recirculates. I was looking up my symptoms that seemed to coincide with mercury toxicity. I ordered a heavy metals test from Osumex, and tested the nasal spray. It immediately turned orange, which indicates the presence of mercury. I even called the company to confirm that the test result wasn't affected by other ingredients. They checked with the lab and said the result was correct, and mercury is present. I also tested my urine, which came out a mix of colors with some orange. How could that be? The company discontinues the use of thimerosal in their formulation. I now cannot tolerate any sulfur foods, nor can I take my migraine med, because of the sulfur compound in the med. I even took a blood test that I ordered independently. I'm not sure why the blood tube label said "arsenic" on it. I asked the tech, and she just showed me the paperwork, which said mercury, and shrugged it off. My test indicated no mercury detected. I now wonder if arsenic was tested, and not mercury. This was done through LabCorp. I don't want to go back to my doctor because she will think I'm crazy, and just reaffirm panic attacks. I have given that Dx a lot of consideration, but the test I did on the nasal spray is awfully weird. I ordered another mercury test from a different company, but hasn't arrived yet. I guess I'm just looking for some support because my family thinks I'm crazy. I also am hoping that if there really is still thimerosal in OTC nasal spray, I can get the word out.
