I've spent a few hours trying to piece together information on CYP3A4 and it's involvement in heavy metal detoxification.
I'm curious if anyone has looked into this, as it would definitely cause serious harm in the consumption of black pepper in large quantities, supplemental piperine and grapefruit/grapefruit juice.
The reason I'm asking is that I haven't been able to find any mention of it, and considering the widespread use of Turmeric (or) Curcumin and Piperine (or) Biopiperine combination supplements in those with
Chronic-Fatigue-Syndrome could possibly lead to liver failure or death during heavy metal detox if CYP3A4 is required during the chelation process.
Two questions.
1) Does chelation bypass phase I liver detoxification?
2) Have you found or heard of any studies involving CYP3A4 and Hg, Pb, As, Fe, Cu etc.?
This seems to be a pretty important issue when you look at how significantly piperine can inhibit CYP3A4, and how many people use this supplement. It would be nice to make it clear to others whether or not this is safe, or possibly lethal or hepatoxic as I'm assuming it most likely would be.
