Hello,
I am 27 year old type 1 diabetic.
A few years ago I tried coconut oil, a tbsp a day and suffered heart palpitations so ceased using it.
Over the weekend I had a terrible sinus infection so used a tablespoon melted in a neti pot with some cooled boiled water, to rinse my sinuses which worked brilliantly. About half an hour after using it I noticed my heart racing. This lasted maybe 30 minutes and then I didn't think anything of it.
During the night however I awoke at about 2am uncontrollably shaking, feeling really weak and like my heart was racing. I was really anxious. Tested my blood
Sugar level but it was perfectly within range. This lasted maybe a minute and then it calmed down but it really shook me up.
This has happened once before, i awoke in the night with the same symptoms, except I felt really nauseous, could barely stand, couldn't take a full breath, really anxious, heart racing. Again this lasted maybe a minute or so and then eased off by itself. Until the weekend, I went maybe a year or so without this happening again. I am now wondering whether this incident could be attributed to me being sensitive to coconut oil (I just can't remember whether I had specifically taken it on that particular day).
Either way, I am terrified that this is something that is wrong with my heart that is going to happen sporadically or whether these are isolated incidences that can be attributed to taking coconut oil.
I went and saw my GP yesterday who said it would be unlikely, but he also seemed to know very little about coconut oil and a quick Google search reveals a few other people with similar reactions to coconut oil.
I have also had a several ECGs and 24 hour ECGs which have all come back normal.
I am wondering if anyone else has experienced something like this with coconut oil?
