Okay. I finally had to give up taking iodine.
For the last month or so I had started experiencing very weird digestive problems and
food sensitivities that I hadn't before. I couldn't tolerate anything with salicylates, amines, or oxalates. I never had these reactions in the past.
Then, I started having severe mental problems that I have never had before. I developed a weird paranoia and began to semi-hallucinate that evil spirits were in my home that wanted to hurt me.
I did not suspect
Iodine so I tried eliminating everything else that I could think of. I eliminated dairy which seemed to help some but not entirely. I eliminated salicylates, amines, and oxalates and nothing changed on the mental front, although the allergic reactions to those things ceased.
Then, on a hunch, I quit taking
Lugol's for a few days. It all stopped and my tolerance for these food chemicals has improved drastically.
I'm not saying this would happen to everyone, but I will never take
Iodine again.
I searched for anything that might hint as to why, and I found this:

Being on the autism spectrum, I already have a delicate digestive system and it might be that the
Iodine damaged my gastric mucosa and/or the mucosa cells in the intestines. Just a hypothesis, though. I can't know for sure.
But, I do know for sure that stopping the iodine stopped the paranoia and hallucinations.
For reference, I was taking roughly 50mg per day with all of the companion nutrients.
