Depression is a chemical illness. Really? Which chemicals?
The truth is there's very little if any
Science behind whatever the psychiatric panel calls a disease. So little is still known about the brain and mind, that any behaviour that is unusual, unpleasant or problematic is labeled as a disease - with expensive medications at the ready to "manage" the disease.
Depression is a serious affliction - but an important one. I believe all even negative human emotional mechanisms like fear, suspicion, aversion, revulsion and yes
Depression are there for positive survival reasons.
The purpose of depression I've found is to trigger absolute powerful and painful dissatisfaction with ones life. To the point of primacy where other impediments to change that would normally hold you back like caution, embarrasment, perception of others, etc. fall by the wayside in significance.
And you're able to make the kinds of radical changes you need to make and otherwise would be too timid to, to make your life livable again by your own standards.
Americans have been programmed to believe that pain is something that unnacceptable and wrong. And any occurance has to be stamped out by means of distraction (entertainment), or heavy consumption of food, drugs, alchohol, shopping sprees or whatever else corporate America would like to sell you.
Just like with natural physical healing, pain is part of the healing process = and so it is with psychological healing. Pain is an indicator that should be listened to, not obliterated.. stepping away from the soapbox..
