Hi everyone, this is my first post but I'm a long time reader, so take everything I say with a grain of salt...
First off, I'd like to state that for the past 6 months I've been batting severe constipation and advanced leaky gut symptoms, and I'd like to state what I've found in both my research and experimentation. During this time I wasn't sure if I had Candidiasis, SIBO-C, PI-IBS, PDV-IBS or Leaky Gut and even had an ER doctor ask me "Have you considered the possibility that this is all in your head?"
I am a pure
Science geek and I only researched Medical Studies and Clinical Trials from University and Government sources, ignoring Homeopathic and Naturopathic remedies. This is what I've come to conclude for myself.
Most of the advanced symptoms of Leaky Gut that I've experienced, mental; haze, forgetfulness, confusion, headaches, fibromyalgia, etc... and physical;
Rheumatoid Arthritis , skin inflammation, etc... they are mostly excited by
food allergies . I realized this when I did my cleanout for both my upper and lower endoscopy.
I'm fairly confident that this advice would apply to either SIBO/SIFO and Leaky Gut, though of course everyone is different, you shouldn't be on a no sugar, no carb, high protein diet for more than several weeks, and instead slowly advance to a fatty fish and vegetable diet.
Cedar Sinai SIBO Diet and the Low FODMAP diet are both flawed. Most of my symptoms did show improvement for a short time moving from a traditional
healthy Diet to a specific one, but did not show further improvement on either diet and got worse on modified Paleo-FODMAP heavy with fat and mammal protein. You really shouldn't eat mammal protein, lactose, too much fiber, eggs, butter, salt, peanuts or anything else typically associated with common allergies.
Mammal protein and high fats do not help your dysbiosis no matter what your symptoms, they are either neutral or detrimental to someone already suffering dysbiosis and leaky gut syndrome.
What I have appears to be a H.Plyori infection of my stomach and intestines due to NAISD abuse, stomach ulcers, small intestinal ulcers and diverticulitis, so this really pertains primarily to leaky gut syndrome. Once you have SIBO / SIFO under control, which should only take several weeks with the proper treatment protocol, leaky gut needs to be addressed.
For me, the Anti-Inflammatory Diet... basically fatty fish and mixed color vegetables, provided me the relief of most of my symptoms. They're not gone of course, but I go in to see my Rheumatologist and GI doctor on tuesday to report my findings.
Anyway, I could provide annotation for everything I've mentioned, but before you do anything you should do your due diligence on research on your own.
So if you think you have SIBO or SIFO and you found some improvement on the Cedar Sinai or Stanford FODMAP diet, but progress has stopped, it might be time for you to move on to to a new diet.
And FWIW, I probably would have died if I had waited for medical treatment and not researched what was going wrong and trial and error of a number of diets that worked for a short time but stopped showing improvements after a couple of weeks.
Yeah, I'm a new guy and I'm not providing references, but do your research, it's all out there, it took me many months to figure out why my leaky gut symptoms weren't improving past a certain point. Now I'm fairly sure I know why.
And for those with constipation or verifiable gut damage, I've created a tea that really seems to help. I know there are a few recipes out there that are similar, but I created mine purely from published medical university research and it seems to be helping greatly.
My tea:
Slippery Elm Bark (Uni of Mass)
Zinc
Curcumin
L-Glutimate.
I'm sure it's probably fine to add Milk Thistle or other suppliments, but that's what I'm using and I'm showing improvement. I did try starting a Quercetin / Bromelain supplement, but Bromelain aggravated my stomach ulcers.
I've found Peppermint Oil to be either neutral or detrimental. Oregano Oil, Garlic Oil, Co Q10 and Virgin Coconut Oil to be beneficial and preferable to Caprylic Acid which if you're taking, Lauric Acid would probably be preferable because H.Pylori isn't affected by Caprylic, but is by Lauric. So if you don't know what you have Caprylic Acid is probably not your best choice of Coconut Supplement.
My apologies if this post is a bit disjointed, but I have way too much info in my head to keep it all in a concise format.
PLEASE RESEARCH EVERYTHING before starting any new protocol or supplement, and this is not real medical advice, only what I have observed for myself and spending countless hours researching verifiable medical results. In the last two months I've studied at least 20-25 units worth of material.
So if you find yourself in the situation where your advanced symptoms aren't improving, maybe you can research and see if what I've found to work might be suitable for you.
Regards,
Mike
