The universe may have existed forever, according to a new model that applies quantum correction terms to complement Einstein's theory of general relativity. The model may also account for dark matter and dark energy, resolving multiple problems at once.
Physicists accept that matter and energy cannot be created or destroyed. It therefore follows that matter and energy have no beginning or end. Ancient humans assumed that all things in the world such as rocks and the Moon had feelings because humans did, and today humans assume that everything has a beginning or end because we do. But our beginnings and ends are neither creation not destruction but points in time where the matter and energy contained within us changes organization by the process of gestation and death. Our projection of "birth and death" onto the universe may be as out of touch with reality as the projection of our emotions onto rocks and the Moon.
There have been a great many reasons to question the Big Bang theory, but its popularity is supported by those whose world view or religion demands that all things have a moment of beginning as our consciousness does.
