"I am thinking of making the herbal snuff. My concern is, according to the information that I find, we are to snort this stuff. " - Correct
"That means we breath it in. Would not this cause it to get into the lungs ... ". - possibly, so what! - " ... which would not be a good thing? ...How do you do this to get it just into the sinus cavities like it is suppose to do?" - I suspect you may be over thinking this situation. but practice this a few times and you'll be fine.
Do not be overly concerned with the snorted hetbs getting beyond the sinuses and into the lungs. No offense intended but unless you live in a bubble, you breath in all manner of nasty, toxic, artificial particles, daily, far worse than organically prepared cayenne, garlic, goldenseal root anf bayberry.
Having said this, I recently came up with a " maintenance mode" method of getting the snuff into the sinuses and back of throat just to clear & clean them out a bit and otherwise add a bit of kick & zing to life.
A regular dose is approximately 1/8 to 1/16th of a teaspoon dumped onto a small plate and divided in half, one half for each nostril. This is the approximate amount used when treating upper respiratory problems which includes sinuses proper, eye / tear ducts, upper throat and bronchials and Ears / Eustacian tubes. My experience has been, when snorting a half dose into nostrils that are already clogged from cold or other illness, most of the powder will only make it part way into sinuses ..... but when the sinuses are mostly clear, the powder will come out the back if the throat and land on or in the opening of bronchials triggering an immediate cough .... the first few times I was not expecting this but now I'm experienced. Rest assured, the buzz will gradually subside in ten, fifteen minutes during which you will have an exhilaration unlike any you have ever ecperienced.
Maintenance mode uses a very small amount, roughly 1/5th to 1/10th of what is described abive as "one half for each nostril" ... we're talking a dusting, so to speak. With this small amount on a clean plate, with clean hands and relatively clean nostrils, press the tip of a forefinger onto the small pile of dust, a small amount of dust wiill adhere to the finger. Place fingertip into a nostril and gently rub around inside touching all the surfaces. Then use a dropper to drip a few drops of water / liquid ( I use Eyebright tincture) into the treated nostril and sniff while holding head back. Repeat same procedure for other nostril with other clean finger; enjoy.
