The best way to keep them in tact is to put them in a baggie and freeze them.

If you put them in alcohol i think it is fine for the next day, but once i did it and it kind of melted after a few days. So the best would be saline solution, i have read that on a lab website wherre they ask to use this to preserve any samples.
