Dear Dawn,
I live 20 miles south of the Hippocrates Health Spa
in West Palm Beach. It is one of my favorite places
in the whole world. Imagine the Garden of Eden, and
that is what Hippocrates is like.
It's located back in the woods to the west of the
city. You would never EVER find it unless you had
specific directions. The adjoining neighborhoods
are mostly filled with old mobile homes. It's not
an impressive part of Florida.
And then you drive through the Hippocrates gate,
and you're in paradise! I've visited there at least
a dozen times in the last 10 years. I take people
up there on Sunday night when they have an open
buffet. And I always tell myself, "Owen, if you
ever get seriously Sick, this is the place to go."
It's beautifully landscaped with pools and groves
of trees. The staff who run the place, are genuinely
friendly and helpful. Brian Clement and his wife
are the directors. His book about living foods is a
must-read.
Most of the patients are people who've been told by
their doctors to get their affairs in order; that
they're at the end of the road. Most of them have
suffered through chemo and surgery and radiation
that just made them much sicker. Most of them ate
the SAD diet all their lives.
The food at Hippocrates is superb; the best living
food I've ever eaten. Everyone eats buffet style.
There's a wheatgrass "bar" that is open 24 hours a
day. You pour your own wheatgrass. Brian grows an
enormous variety of sprouts in his own greenhouse.
All of the fruits and veggies are organic.
Not all of the patients live -- these are people
who've been written off by their doctors -- but a
surprising number of them do survive; indeed, they
thrive. People come back year after year after year.
It's a magical spot on the face of the Earth; full
of positive vibrations and healing energy.
If you do check in to Hippocrates, I know you'll be
in good hands, Dawn. Keep us posted on your plans.
Blessings,
Owen
