Hi! I refrained from consuming anything with salt for weeks to a month after accidentally ingesting too much at one time. Slowly I realized I was having a harder time eating because I started to have less saliva to help chew. I also started sweating dramatically less than normal. Basically, my body's fluid output had decreased (including urine). At some point, I noticed that I had to drink more water to quench my thirst, until only electrolyte drinks could quench it. This was around the time I realized that refraining from salt/salty food might be what's causing these things. So, I started eating food that had a normal level of saltiness and using salt as a condiment again. I immediately started feeling better, and the things I mentioned above about fluid output from my body (urine, saliva, sweat, etc.) began to improve, but only to a certain point. Also, once I reverted to eating normal food, a pressure started building up in my head every time I ingested something with salt. I got hospitalized because of this and after some time, an MRI scan revealed there was an increased amount of fluid (water?) in my head. And that's how it exactly feels. Like water pumping, which is really uncomfortable, though not as bad when I was taken to the hospital. So, after visits to different doctors and tests done to find out the problem exactly is, they just said that I should just keep on eating normally and everything would eventually go back to normal, since I had normal electrolyte results (although some of the doctors I went to said these aren't exactly accurate since they only measure electrolyte blood levels), no diabetes, no thyroid problems, etc.
My present condition:
Plain water still doesn't quench my thirst like it normally does, and salt doesn't taste "salty" like how it normally does. I read somewhere on the forums that this could indicate a deficiency. I've been hoping that I would be back to normal at some point, but it seems like I'm not able to absorb the salt that my body needs to get back to normal levels, despite eating normally again. The pressure in my head increase or decreases depending on the saltiness of the food or fluids I intake. My perspiration, saliva, and urine levels, also haven't returned to normal, and I frequently feel sleepy even when I have had a full night's rest. I had to post this because I am feeling worse as time passes and am hoping that someone would know what to do.
