MoreA year ago my TSH was 5. Now it's 15. My doctor wants to see me to do further testing for hypothyroid.
I've been taking Lugol's for almost a year now, 40 drops a day + all the cofactors. How come it went down? What's going on?- Re: Scared, is this normal after a y... glaxony

This is a reply to # 2,237,953In case you are not just giving us the raspberry, I am going to take a wild stab in the dark and offer a pure Science fiction fantasy hypothesis…. You have the mutation. People with the mutation cannot take as much Iodine as people with the old fashioned kind of DNA. Mutated thyroids do not need as much Iodine as the old fashioned thyroid glands. And when you inundate them with it, they shut down from overwhelm. That is why your levels are getting lower. Thyroid is overwhelmed and shutting down. It is purely a guess. And I have no scientific training. Just hoping to lighten things up a little. Maybe I have gone too far.
Do you have calcium assimilation problems? Do you have a chronic cough?

i am beginning to think that maybe TSH has other uses in an Iodine rich body. i also think it does eventually settle down. my tsh is fine taking a gram a day of iodide. - Re: Scared, is this normal after a y... #154218

This is a reply to # 2,237,953I just asked about a very similar problem after taking Lugol's for 2 years. I'm currently trying more selenium and other cofactors. I think Trapper is right about the TSH though so I try not to worry too much. By the way, are you taking 40 drops of 2% or 5%?

Glaxony, I'm sorry, my English is not good enough to understand your message.
Trapper, I had to go for blood work for iron levels and I told my Dr my body temp is often below normal and I'm cold all the time so she checked TSH. And I got a call from the DR's office telling me she wants to see me because my TSH is too high. It used to be borderline according to their standards (at 5). And now it's 15. It scared me. That's all. It was at 5 before Iodine and now it's 15. I will see the Dr in 2 weeks.
I did a search on the forum and found many posts about this. It seems to be normal. I will stick to what I've been doing so far. I've been taking Iodine for a year now (100mg for the last 6 months).

youre doin it right.
i find different things will warm me up. sometimes potassium. sometimes vit C. sometimes MSM (organic sulfur). this is the krebs cycle thats broken. you might also try a little dmso.

Can you please elaborate on the krebs cycle? And what exactly is dmso and MSM (organic sulfur). I don't take potassium, maybe I should give it a try.

TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) increases the activity of the Sodium-Iodine Symporter (NIS) that drives Iodine into the thyroid and into the cells of the other organs. That is the reason that the TSH blood levels increase when patients are taking Iodine — the TSH is needed to drive Iodine into the cells.
