question for Ginagirl on sulphur

Ginagirl, you replied to a post a little over a month ago, where I asked how best to heal a fractured metatarsal bone. You suggested to look into sulphur and silica (which I did), and that sometimes sulphur is the missing link.
I had already been taking silica, so added sulphur, as I've never supplemented with that, but eat quite a bit of sulphur foods.
Within, a week of starting the sulphur crystals (mine is 99.9 pure OptMSM, methylsulfonylmethane) my neck started breaking out with a red itchy rash. I continued with the msm for a few more days, then stopped. The rash went away, indicating the msn was causing the rash. Then I gave it another go four to five days later.
The rash came back, so I stopped the msm, again, and have not restarted it. Rash seemed be clearing, but then returned and also my eyelids and inside corners of my eyes are a bit swollen and itchy these last few days. Eyes are clear, just the skin around the eyes are affected. Nothing has relieved the itching (it's not terribly bad, more mild) and redness. I tried zinc and arnica cream on my neck, but it didn't help and being on my neck, I had to wash it off in the morning.
So my question...do you think it's detox or could I possibly be allergic? I did have cabbage the night before this last flareup and I believe there's sulphur in cabbage.
I read that hardly no one is allergic to sulphur, but my daughter had what they thought was an allergic reaction to a sulfa Antibiotic twenty five years ago, so makes me wonder.
I have been drinking tons of water (with salt) today and eating very little to try and flush my system.
I have a trip in a couple days and would really like to get this cleared up before I leave.
Your or anyone's thoughts are much appreciated.

This is a reply to # 2,237,490I've seen a study (sorry don't have a link now) where it was shown that MSM isn't being metabolized by the body and it's just being excreted in the same form as it was taken. So it's very questionable if it's true that MSM is a good source of sulfur. However I believe it has some other benefits (I love it for its nootropic effects and I keep it for those times when I need powerful mind-kick to complete some complex work - I'm programmer).

Sulphur is a major detoxing mineral, so that would be my first guess. (In homeopathic medicine sulphur is the biggest detox remedy.) Typically it produce skin reactions like redness, itching and burning sensation.
But some people do have a reaction to sulphur, so it could be an "allergy";

How to relieve the itching and redness before your trip; you may try a borax oinment; borax, warm water mixed with a drop or two of essential oil, and a little iodine. No need to rinse off. This solution I used many times with success for skin irritations.
Ps.In homeopathy Iodine is one of the antidotes for sulphur, but also champhor (i.e.thai-salve) and chamomilla.
Could be worth a try.

This is a reply to # 2,237,665Interesting that Iodine is an antidote for sulphur. I do take a lot of Iodine daily and in fact, thought I should stop all Iodine and supplements until the rash has subsided, It is some better today. I'll try the borax water mix and keep my water intake up.
I thought it odd that I was getting a reaction even after I had stopped the MSM for a couple weeks.
My diet and exercise hasn't been the best this past year, so I really need to work on that if I want any supplements and iodine to work well.

Another possibility of what is going on:
The amino acid cysteine is very high in foods that we call sulfur foods. One of the things that is fairly common in people were mercury toxic is the enzyme that breaks down Cysteine gets screwed up.
I can speak to this from personal experience. Within a year after getting my mercury fillings removed which in retrospect I did not educate myself fully enough before I had them removed. ..I developed chronic diarrhea that I went on for eight months before I finally figured out that all the foods that are high in sulfur I was totally reacting to foods that before my fillings removed I never had trouble with.

Yes, there are many possibilities, like sulfur "allergy";
"It appears that sulfite sensitivity may be caused by a relative deficiency of the enzyme sulfite oxidase which breaks down sulfites and requires molybdenum as a cofactor. As with lactase deficiency, this is a metabolic problem and not an allergic one."

Sorry, for late reply. I don't get on here as often as I used to.
I actually, had considered that maybe mercury toxicity could be to blame. I did read that people on are not really 'allergic' to sulphur, however with my daughter's reaction when she was seven, I just wasn't sure.
I did have about seven amalgam's removed a number of years ago and tried to do come chelation with dsmo. Then I become a bit concerned that I shouldn't be trying to chelate with an Amalgam tattoo in my gums. So I stopped. Last year, I tried to have the Amalgam removed. There are there to four pieces in my gum. I think they were able to get like one, but failed with the rest. After that, I am really resigned to just living with it and trying to stay as healthy as I can without stirring up to much trouble.
I have been able to increase Iodine and feel it helps much, but still am not Iodine sufficient.
I did quite a few hair test analysis that Cutler recommends. Still deranged, but last test barely met the counting rule, but alas, it still did :(
I'm tired of trying to detox all the time and am ready for a break ;)

This is a reply to # 2,237,490sulphur drug "allergy" is a herxheimer reaction
and "they" don't believe most people are smart enough to understand
so they don't even bother trying to explain
they just do research and try to find something
that will suppress symptoms instead
it is like putting a bandaid on a wound without cleaning it out
or splinting a broken arm without setting or re-setting it properly
just a guess
not a scientist
