Who Knows
Hi all,
Its my first post here so I hope its in the right place. Great forum by the way.
Anyway, I am shortly going to be starting a juice fast. I am doing this for various health reasons rather than to lose weight.
I just wanted to ask what would be the best way to prevent muscle loss during the fast? I am going to be fasting for 2 weeks and possibly onto 1 month depending on the results and how I am feeling.
I have read other posts about this on here and on other sites about Fasting and muscle loss but there is a lot of conflicting information.
I have done some bodybuilding weightlifting for a number of years now so have a reasonable amount of muscle mass and don't really want to be losing to much of it. I know I will probably have to sacrifice some and I am willing to do that but I want to keep the loss as minimal as possible.
So I have been thinking about possibly taking a vegan protein shake supplement, that contains pea and hemp protein etc but wouldn't taking this be breaking my fast? Also I have read that taking BCAA (Branch chain Amino Acids) during the fast will also help prevent muscle loss, although wont this too break the fast and I don't really trust what's in these supplements anyway and I don't want any unnatural substances going into my system during this process, considering the main reason for my fast is to detox.
If taking these supplements would in fact break the fast then would weight lifting once or twice a week to try and maintain muscle be beneficial or would this have the opposite affect and cause me to loss more muscle?
Any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks.
