I recently started taking synthroid. My Dr. perscribed 50mg of iodoral for 6wks. When ordering on line, it is on back order. I was reading the many side effects that it may casue. Would you advise that i start on 12.5 mg and ease up to 50mg?
There are several option of how to take iodine; start very slow and titrate; or take all in one go. Others take much more than the doctors recommend. Spend some time searching at this forum, start with the R`ed posts. You will find some valuable information.
I am now researching Armour, the supplement for synthroid. I am so confused. I would rather start with a natural form of meds than going straight to synthroid. I feel it would be best to try the Armour and Iodoral (low dose) first and see how that works. Any suggestions?
It is good to do the research, doctor's push synthetics. My husband is on a thyroid FB forum and I often scan it. Lots of women there and they mainly use NDT or Armour. They do have trouble finding doctor's to prescribe it. He has been on Armour since he was 6 years old (now 66). I give him every day between 2-4 drops Lugol's 5% and at times an extra drop of SSKI . The doctor does not know he uses iodine. Also in our case the insurance does not pay for the Armour.
Do you feel that Iodine at least would help somewhat. They told my husband he would have been taller if they had not taken out his thyroid (may be partial) because he was hyper active :(
your body needs Iodine so yes it will help BUT your thyroid will never fall in line and produce thyroxins as it should if your taking in external hormones.
depending on where you start, the idea is to take Iodine et al and natural hormones to kick start the thyroid. determine an adequate dose of Iodine over 100mg and stick to it. adjust the the hormones, not the Iodine if one starts getting hyperthyroid.
the iodine project said that they find after orthoiodosupplmentation begins that a third have to keep taking thyroid hormones, a third are able to cut their dose of hormones significantly, and a third were able to be free of the hormones completely.
The best link about thyroid medication combined with iodine/iodide supplementation I can think of. She has been there; hyper, hypo T. Took the tests, took her health issues in her own hands. http://www.violiendamast.nl/thyroid%29.
