I've had chronic lower back pain after eating carbohydrates for a few months but only recently after some especially bad pains I have realized that pain is likely caused by my kidneys and not my digestion.
Went to see my primary about a recent episode of especially bad kidney pains but she thinks it's likely a UTI seeing as I also had minor pain with urination. No bacteria seen in the urine draw but still waiting for a culture.
I have been suspicious also for a while now that due to SIBO I am experiencing d-lactate acidosis. D-lactate is an acid produced by overgrowth of bacteria (including beneficial bacteria) in the gut and I have all the matching symptoms after eating carbohydrates (burning acidic feeling, feeling drunk without alcohol, headaches, bloating)
Of course these could also be symptoms of candida but I have a history of bacterial overgrowth and I have been overdosing on probiotics for an extended period of time, which puts me at risk for SIBO.
I also had ketones in my urine which could be a sign of acidosis, or maybe just a result of my low carb diet.
Is it possible that acid created by SIBO along with a diet high in protein and fat could cause acidosis and pain in the kidneys? Would it be a sign of acidosis that the pain gets better only with alkalizing foods (like lemon juice and vinegar)?
I'm still waiting for my blood results and the culture from the urine but I'm starting to be more and more skeptical of a UTI. If I'm negative for UTI I'm considering just begging my doc to test me for acidosis. (What even is the test? Low blood pH?)
Does anyone know anything about acidosis? Am I totally misconstruing my symptoms into something else? Anything at all would be appreciated!! Thank you for your help!
