"A study involved mating female mice with males genetically engineered to produce a green- fluorecing protein in all their body cells.
During pregnancy if mother suffers organ damage, the fetus sends stem cells to repair the damaged organ.
Most of the resulting fetuses also produced this protein, which made it easy to discern any fetal tissue in the mother.
Some fluorescent cells were found in the damaged heart tissue of the mothers, where repair was hastened by transformation into new heart cells which included blood vessel cells. Fetuses also produce cells that are known to shield the mother from breast cancer."
"Studies have found that the baby in the womb helps pregnant mothers to overcome some organ failure. Doctors have observed that women who experience weakness of the heart during pregnancy have better recovery than any other group of heart failure patients .
And the researchers observed that the fetus promotes its own survival by protecting the heart of its mother."
