LOL, I used to laugh when I would read an "official" statement proclaiming some recommended daily amount of some nutrient or other.... vitamin C, vitamin B, zinc, calcium, blah blah blah.....
Why bother ? I mean, why choose "daily" for a recommended amount of something ?? If the recommended daily amount of vitamin C is 35 milligrams, why not break it down to an "hourly" amount ?? That would be 1.46 milligrams of vitamin C per hour or 0.024 milligrams per minute. So pop a milligram every hour, on the hour. Silly. Almost as silly as taking it every day.
But in Nature, it is impossible for mammals to get all the daily amount of all the stuff they "need." God isn't stupid, the bodies of these creatures were designed to go without various things for extended time periods.
It is just like the sky. The "official" word would be that sometimes the sky is deficient in clouds. Othertimes, it is "deficient" in sunshine for long periods. Does it matter in the long run ? No. Deficiencies are normal, if you don't believe it put a salt lick out and watch the critters come lick it. Chronic deficiency is the norm in Nature, intended that way.
Iodine ? Same thing. The body needs it, no doubt, but it also has a concentrating mechanism in place for it, so when it gets it, it hangs on to it for a long time. It probably only needs a good dose of
Iodine once a month, or once every two months, something like that. Although the Japanese seemed to do well on a constant 13 mg per day average
Iodine intake. I don't know the exact answer for everyone, everyone is different. But the general answer is people need more than they're getting, generally. And getting a clump of
Iodine once a month is what I do, a few milligrams, sometimes more. Sometimes I deviate and take a little per day, for a few days. The body is resilient !!
But I started iodine with knowing I was severely deficient, so in the beginning I loaded myself with it pretty good. I survived, no problem.
What gets me are these people who think they will get ahead by large doses of anything, over a long time period, I think that is wrong. (Except vitamin C). The body does not need many milligrams of B12 every day, or many other things. A couple times a month maybe eat foods rich in the desired nutrient. What is far more important is keeping the toxins out, because the toxins do more harm than any supplement can do good. I think the body gets more mileage out of eliminating bad things going in, than it does by supplementing good things on top of bad things coming in. So, enjoy your deficiencies, you are made to be deficient for a little while in everything. Just put a little (or a lot) of whatever something you choose, once in a while.
