Hi, I have some questions regarding some of alcohols strange, counter-intuitive effects upon those with severe liver damage. Primarily I'm wondering why alcohol seems to counter the fatigue that goes hand-in-hand with a damaged liver. The effect is very puzzling to me, and also terrifying. It's obviously suicidal to actually pursue this sort of short-term help, but I'm wondering why it works at all. I'm someone with a severely damaged liver who is plagued by the worst fatigue I can imagine anyone suffering, and yet, for some reason, alcohol, the very poison which caused the damage in the first place, completely vanquishes the fatigue while I'm drinking. If I need to something important and I can't rouse even the tiniest smidgeon of energy to do it, alcohol seems to unlock hidden energy reserves to the point where I can do what needs to be done. It's basically horrifying to know that I'm further killing myself and the entire thing fills me with dread and depression, but it DOES work. Can anyone offer any explanations for this? I don't know whether my question makes sense but I feel like I'm in an impossible situation and I'm just wondering if anyone here can offer any insight. I don't know who to ask and I have no really good sources to turn to, so I'm just asking for a little bit of help…….. I'd like to say thanks in advance in case anybody here actually attempts to wrestle with this question!
