Hi everyone,
Hope you had a good week. I am writing to tell you about a supplement I began using some time ago that I believe offers hope for our condition: Kombucha. First, I will give you some background about myself.
I first started noticing symptoms of this condition last Spring. They began about a month after I had taken an
Antibiotic for an infection (which in hindsight, I now believe had a negative effect, because a follow-up visit to the doctor said that there was an increase in my liver enzyme activity). The first signs were people sniffing their noses around me on the train. Then they started doing it when I was outside, walking around on the street. I didn’t understand initially because I didn’t smell anything myself. But, realizing that I was giving off some kind of odor, I started trying some things, such as buying strong deodorant, wiping Milk of Magnesia on myself, and taking zinc.
These things seemed to work for a few weeks, but during the Summer people started sniffing again. It got worse – some people would give me really angry looks when they passed me. And then in late Summer, I began to smell myself. Sometimes it would smell like urine; sometimes fecal; sometimes like rotten eggs. I started to take Chlorofresh, an internal deodorant, but it only seemed to make my smells stronger.
I did some research online and realized that I might have TMAU. So in the Fall I started restricting my diet to the foods that we are allowed (except meat, which I couldn’t give up). I stopped having the urine and fecal smells, but I started to have the fishy smell. That’s when I knew for sure it was likely TMAU. I decided to cut out meat from my diet; it helped but the smell was still there. So then I tried taking a bunch of different supplements. I mean A LOT.
I tried champignon mushroom supplements (Deodorex, Pro-M). Cinnamon and green tea supplements (I also tried drinking cinnamon tea/black tea/green tea). Zinc. Kelp. Glycine. Coconut oil. Oil of oreganol. Goldenseal. Cayenne. Digestive enzymes. HCL. Vitamin B2. Charcoal. Neomycin (the antibiotic). By the end of a few weeks, my room looked like a pharmacy, there were so many capsule bottles. Unfortunately, while some of these things seemed to work a little bit, none of the effects were strong enough or long-lasting. I still got nasty looks when I went outside.
I then tried Chlorophyll and Chlorella, which I had been avoiding because of my bad experience with Chlorofresh. Both of these things helped to reduce the fish odor. Unfortunately, they also produced a strong green/plant-like smell that also bothered people. So I was back to square one.
Then, a few weeks ago, when I was reading an article about treating
Body Odor , I saw that it mentioned kombucha as a possible solution. I dug further and saw a couple more articles supporting this theory. Kombucha is full of good bacteria and enzymes that help our digestive systems. It is very popular as a drink in China, and many people believe it wards off health problems like cancer, and even baldness.
I decided to buy a bottle from The Vitamin Shoppe. Within a week I noticed a significant decrease in my odor. I have now been taking the kombucha tablets for three weeks, and I can say without uncertainty that my odor is practically non-existent. I don’t see the nasty looks anymore. I do get paranoid when I see people rub their noses, but I believe that that has to do with the fact that it’s winter right now and people have colds. I purchased Kombucha green tea to strengthen any possible effect. One note – at the end of the first week of using the tablets, I did have a little gas – a few farts here and there. But this is expected.
I am not saying that this is definitively the solution. It has worked like a charm for me, but it may not work for other people. I am just suggesting you try it for a week or two and see if it helps you. I bought a bottle of 100 capsules (500 mg) and take 4 per day (two before breakfast, two after dinner). It is kind of expensive, but believe me, it is worth it.
Just Google "kombucha" and "
Body Odor " to find some articles discussing the effectiveness of kombucha against
Body Odor (I've seen some at the HealthyLivingLeads blog and the EatAlkalineFoods site).
I hope it works for you!!!
