Okay, I have a...weird case of BO.
I have it almost daily.
I know it comes from my underarms, chest and sometimes groin/butt.
I use odaban for my armpits and that keeps me dry but sometimes I might still have BO if it wears off even a little bit. On somedays, I can do some mild exercise and my underarms will be COMPLETELY dry, but I'll still stink and that makes me think that it might be coming from the sweat on my chest/back. I've tried several deodorants, baking soda, lemon, crystal deodorant, anti-perspirants, etc and none seem to help.
I think due to the odaban, I have a lot of compensatory sweating and I will ALWAYS feel like my a**ho**/groin is sweaty. I put baby powder but I still feel the same. Most of the time, it isn't but sometimes when I stand up I can smell a weird odor which I assume is from there. (male btw).
When I'm at school, people will always hold their nose around me. I think my smell varies because some days "it smells like feet" and some days "it smells like shit" and other days "it smells like pickles" blah blah.
I wear cologne and lotion and honestly am at a loss for what to do. I exercise (run) 3-5x a week around 3mi and eat healthy and several glasses of water a day.
Is there a certain diet I should try?
I am East African and I would assume it's just normal Body Odor that normal people experience, but I don't always hear that I'm musty. Just an off-putting, generally unpleasant smell. Sometimes I can smell it and it's honestly indescribable. It's not pleasant but it's not horrible either. I can't smell it on my clothes at all, even if I wait a few days after I shower and stuff. My clothes either smell faintly of cologne or like laundry detergent (clean).
I try not to be active while I'm at school, but I don't think it helps because I get the same reactions everyday. I don't wear too much cologne, and some days I don't even sweat. I'm honestly at a loss for what to do.
I don't smoke or drink alcohol either.
If I could find a cure for this, I would absolutely love my life. This one thing is holding me back in so many ways and if I could cure it, I could actually lead an amazing life like any 15 year old would like to.

This is a reply to # 2,140,939I have to reply to this. I was in the same situation like you, one day when I was in highschool a person blurted out that it "smells like shit". I was very perplexed when I heard this because I couldn't smell anything, and it was even more confusing when people started to slowly look at me as if they were hinting that I smelled like it. Soon these complaints started happening more frequent around me. Not only that, people started to hold their nose or start to sniffle around me. This made me very distressed and self-conscious, but I couldn't smell anything they were smelling. I didn't know what to do so I just did more of the basic hygienic tasks like put on more deodorant, take more showers, where talcum powder, where cologne. But even with all of that, I still got reactions from people. I too thought it had something to do with sweating so I tried to take medication that stopped me from sweating. However, even though I stopped sweating I still got even more reactions. It took me a while to figure out that it was something internal that is causing me to smell bad. The way I stopped the responses was through dieting, yet you're saying that you are already eating healthy. I have to admit that in my highschool years I wasn't really eating healthy at all. I had to cut a lot of normal foods in my diet like meat, dairy, bread, snacks, and Sugar in order to stop smelling. I don't know if you did the same, I'm not a doctor so I'm not an expert on the body. But, I do know that I've spent a lot of money trying to prevent myself from sweating. And even when I stopped sweating I still smelled. Though I don't really believe in doctors at this point, I still recommend going to one so you can try and narrow down what is causing you to smell.Advertisement

I can honestly say that my diet isn't perfect but I know I eat better than 90% of the people my age. So with the things you had to cut out, what did you eat?
And lastly, did it solve your problem?

This is a reply to # 2,141,427Oh, and I have told a doctor. My doctor said he didn't notice a smell and my mom was trying to convince him/me that it's all in my head. This problem is ruining my life; I have serious anxiety any time I'm in close quarters with people and I doubt I'll ever be able to shake it. I've taken Xanax (without prescription) and it really helped because I didn't worry about anything and I don't know if I didn't smell but I didn't care. My parents don't believe I might have anxiety or Depression because it's some kind of taboo to them and they just think I'm crazy. Ugh, I'm just venting now but thanks for taking the time to reply. I really appreciate it.

I generally ate fruit (apples, oranges, grapefruit, strawberries, etc.) and tried to eat anything that had dark green leafy vegetables(collard greens, spinach,lettuce,kale) because they are known to contain chlorophyll. And chlorophyll is supposed to be a internal Body Odor . I'm pretty sure there are other foods that I can eat, but since I can't smell myself I don't really know. I used to think that eating oatmeal and eating rice was okay. However, I still got reactions from people when I was eating a lot of it.
In any case,I managed to stop smelling several times in my life through dieting.But, I haven't been able to be consistent with it longterm. If your condition is anything like me, a steady diet is what is going to reduce the Body Odor . There are other factors that can reduce the odor. From my experience: chlorophyll, probiotics, and exercising(to sweat)can also reduce your odor.
Everybody has their own food sensitivities , also there is a great possibility that your condition is different than mine. I already knew your doctor would respond that he couldn't smell you, just like my doctors (and mother)did to me. Still, I feel that you should go to doctors and try to check yourself out to see if you have diseases that are known to cause odor (TMAU, diabetes,etc.).Advertisement

This is a reply to # 2,141,449Anonny, you mentioned in your first post that you are East African. I was wondering if you could be more specific as to where in Africa.
I am native to Nigeria and I also suffer from the same problems as you and Jax. Similar to Jax, I was able to eliminate the odor last year through diet and exercise. The odor came back around September/October because of a few things I did during the summer, but since then I was able to greatly reduce it through diet and exercise again.
Right now, I'm wondering what group of people this problem is specific to. Most people, including me, mention that it started around 13-16 years old.

8+ cups of water/day (sometimes with pure lemon juice)
lemon/orange/ginger/dandelion herbal teas (always with lemon juice)
Gluten free oatmeal (add cinnamon, ginger, gluten free granola, quinoa, millet, buckwheat and amaranth)
cream of rice
brown rice (add ground flax/chia seeds, oregano, parsley, and basil)

I've recently bought a bunch of fresh fruits (apples, pineapples, strawberries, grapes, watermelon, bananas) and a few other frozen berries for smoothies. also some salad and lean chicken breast. hopefully, I can get over this soon. im missing out on so much in life that I'll never be able to get back.

This is a reply to # 2,141,816I try and follow this diet with a few tweaks. The only meat I eat is salmon and I don't eat any dairy. Instead I drink almond or rice milk.

2. Nope, pretty standard acne.
3. I've had it as long as I can remember IF I ridiculously over exerted myself or didn't shower. I was able to be fresh for a whole day with just deo, but once I hit 9th grade (age 14) I would get BO from the most standard school day.
I can't smell it for the most part. This is going to sound weird, but in one class I can smell it. I'm positive it's coming from me by the warmth and how local the smell is. If it were coming from elsewhere, I'm sure it'd offend me. And sometimes when I walk out of a classroom I can smell it for a brief second.
Have you heard of bodymint? I've read some reviews and they mostly seem positive, but I'm not sure I how it'll work with people that have bo. I ordered a bottle that should come anyday now, I'll let you know how it goes. I'm 5'8 at ~130 lbs so I'm not overweight or anything. - Re: Help out with this BO? anonny

This is a reply to # 2,141,427I still dont know what causes me to have an unusual odor but I have found over the years that I had to stop eating fruit cause it made the smell way more horrible. Also, I splash apple vinegar on underarms after shower. That helps kill odor causing bacteria on skin or something.
