I got a mix of Iodine and Potassium Iodide that has to be diluted to make your own Lugol's solution.
Does anyone know if Iodine crystals can be diluted in water at room temperature (like KI), or it has to be boiling water?
Thanks, I was thinking the same. But the person who I bought the mixture from told me to better dilute in a smaller amount of boiling water and top it up afterwards. That complicates the process.
elemental Iodine is basically NOT soluble in water. if KI is added to the water then it will dissolve I2. alcohol will dissolve elemental as well, which is why tinctures are possible.
Thanks, Trapper.
Any reliable formulas for calculating the amount of water needed for any specific amount of grams of I2/KI?
I want to make a 5% solution, having a 30g mix (10g I2, 20g KI).
