Insulin and Glucose test

My doctor ordered glucose and Insulin test. I have a lot of questions. Are these two separate tests? I am supposed to fast and then do the test? If fasting, for how long? Why does he ask for tests after 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours and 3 hours?
I have been suffering from toe swelling and now knee and hip joint pains.

Did the doctor ask for you to fast?
Did the doctor specify fasting and for how long?
It sounds like it's post meal or a glucose drink that you consume first. Then, measurement of your glucose and insulin response at specific intervals to check your body's response rate.

This is a reply to # 2,134,536Thanks. I did talk to the nurse at my doctor's office. They want both the tests done at the same time and I cannot eat before going for the test. Then they will give me the glucose drink.
I have not found anyone who do these tests yet.
