I just made an account here, to give you the solution to your problems. Or some of you, as this might not work for everybody. I watched this site often to solve this exfoliative cheilitis problem, but my problem is almost fully solved and I decided to help my fellow brethren here.
So here it goes!
I want to start off to say that my issue started all the way back 4 years ago approximately. I forgot to bring my lip moisturiser then and my lips were very dry. So I licked it a lot and was biting on it. As some skin started to tear, such as is normal with dry lips, I started to bite off more.
Later all that peeling process started to come on. Years and years I removed the peeling skin. Then I saw this tip over here to use water on it and clean it every day. I did that. The process did improve, but later on got a bit worse.
Then came the SOLUTION, a year ago.
#TIP No.1: DO NOT REMOVE THE PEELING SKIN, I REPEAT DO NOT REMOVE IT.
It first looked like it was getting more when I did that. But then it had gotten less. I knew I shouldn't remove the peeling skin, however, due to pressure of being under friends and girlfriends etc. I did do it at occasion. Starting over the whole process. Because, I did this at occasions, I started to see little improvement here and there. Just about 1,5 month ago, I decided to really put my foot on it and not remove the dry skin. While showering I didn't have a problem, but when I brushed my teeth I did.
Due to the water dripping down my lips, the dry skin often teared of a bit. And sometimes I removed that.
TIP NO.2: However, TRY TO AVOID THE WATER PUSHING THE PEELING SKIN AWAY!
If you can, while brushing your truth and trying to put water in your mouth to wash the tooth paste away, put the pressure of the water on low if you have to. This all is about not removing the peeling skin yourself.
The peeling skin will go by itself, when the healing process on that part of the lip is done. This is all about your lip healing. But not getting the opportunity, because you or something is removing the peeling skin at the part it wants to heal.
TIP No.3: Check for vitamin deficiency, eat well and sleep enough hours!!!
Now I got some magic tricks under my sleeves.
Here it goes. I was hard headed and not really eager to follow other's advice on this. However, we all need some help.
My mum told me that she had heard that SHEA BUTTER would be good. In Ghana, this is often used in colder areas in the country for tearing feet, skin and even lip. Because of the cold, the skin tends to tear and this is commonly used there. I used this for two weeks and it was already getting better.
TIP NO.4: USE NATURAL SHEA BUTTER, NOT PERSÉ PRE-PROCESSED ONES BUT THE NATURAL ONES. IF YOU CAN, AT SOME LOCAL INDIAN, AFRICAN SHOPS THEY SELL THEM. It looks like this:
PUT IT IN YOUR HANDS A BIT AND RUB IT TILL IT GETS A BIT OILY AND APPLY IT ON YOUR LIPS!
After that I got the message that someone used something that even heals it faster than SHEA BUTTER. So I ditched the shea butter and used the MERCY CREAM!
See image:
TIP NO.5: A FASTER WAY TO REMOVE THIS ISSUE IS MERCY CREAM / OINTMENT
Apply it on your lips a few times in a day (when you feel your lips has gotten dryer. I did that and more importantly, my lips were still peeling. And yes, after brushing my teeth I still had to be carefull not to peel the skin myself. However, after using this creme and 1,5 weeks later. My lips improved tremendously. It's almost gone!
Mercy creme is an African creme that is used for Eczema etc.
TIP NO.6: Use Mercy Creme/Ointment till your lips got healed. Put some more when you're about to sleep. After your lips are healed. Go back to SHEA BUTTER and use that as your lip moisturiser from there on. Stop using Mercy Ointment, after your lips have gotten better. Since it's only for cracked skin etc.!
FYI, my lips look almost peel free. I forgot about the issue the whole week, while I did remember to put creme on my lips. It has gotten a habit.
Don't thank me when this has done it for you, just helping others to get through this issue.
When your lips are healed. Know that this all, was a process in life and it has taught us something. So live on with your life without this thing on your lip ahahahhah, and be the best person you can be! Treat others as you would treat yourself. If I didn't do that, I wouldn't give you these tips that might help some of you overcome this.
One other tip. TIP NO. 7: DON'T LET THIS ISSUE MAKE YOU LOOK CONFIDENCE. I've been a confident person, but for some reason my mum noticed me looking down a lot more when I got this. Unconciously I was hiding my lips for other people by looking down. She said: The more you hide it, the more I get curious about what I'm hiding. In other words, it got more obvious that my lip was cracky etc. The more you hide it, the more people will notice it!! So stand proud and move anywhere till it's gone. Talk to yourself everyday, if you have to.
It'll not be a good thing, if you got this peeling lip problem solved. But still feel all insecure, because you were like that years in a row. Don't be!!!
Hope this helps someone. Thanks.
