Hi
I'm a 40 yrd old serious runner. Since 1995 (when i was 22) i have had an ache in both lower legs. The ache is not painful, it's a heaviness/weariness sort of symptom. It first appeared during a run and at first was only present whenever i ran. Basically it was akin to running in thick mud. But over the next few years the ache became more permanent. At one point just rising from my seat made my legs really ache. Some one even observed that i was limping because i walked so wearily. Then the ache lessened but it has never disappeared. I have no problems when still but I still get it whenever i run, worse when it is very warm weather. Conversely, in very cold weather it is not so bad.
In 2001 i developed the same symptoms in my arms, again it happened suddenly and can remember the exact moment. I can barely swim more than 20 lengths in an indoor pool before giving up as my arms become like dead weights. As with running, temperature is a factor. I can swim normally in the sea and now swim all year around in the sea.
I'm a very dedicated runner but very frustrated that the ache is holding me back. I have had back scans, neuro-muscular tests, loads of lower leg scans - all to no avail. I even had a fasciatomy which made no difference.
any ideas what i can do?
