I'm not sure where you are getting your information. You can search online and find many pictures of scabies on the scalp and face. I have scabies on the scalp right now. Since I was unable to get the doctor to give me enough permethrin to coat my body and head plus spouses, I did not get rid of it.
I am currently on the third day of using sulfur ointment on the head under a shower cap. It has finally reduced the amount of bumps and bites. I will go one more night and then treat with permethrin on three times. Day one, three, and seven.
I am finding that I am educating my doctor on this problem. I had this one time 10 years ago, and was able to get rid of it with one treatment. Wow, are they incredibly resistant today.
So far within one month, I have used permethrin (which worked pretty well, although my face swelled). Red pepper mixed with glycerin works great on spot locations, and can work as a treatment to kill mite (watch the eyes).
You know if you have something on your body that is not right. Unfortunately, the medical estabishment does not know how to treat this. My suggestion, is to use sulfur ointment in combination with permethrin.
FYI on the bleach baths, epson salt and borax baths. This worked on getting some of the mites off of my scalp, but unfortunatly they did not die-they moved on to other areas of my body and I was up all night itching in new locations that night.
The only things that work: permethrin, sulfur ointment (studies show most successful when used twice a day for two hours each time-for three days. I would follow up on this treatment regime in another three days)
