MoreMy wife had suffered Exfoliative Cheilitis for over 5 years. Every method did not work on cure Exfoliative Cheilitis in past 5 years. But, my doctor used imuran 50mg and doxepin 25mg for trying to cure my wife's Exfoliative Cheilitis. Finally, these two pills curing Exfoliative Cheilitis. And, no more peeling lips in 3 months.

Can you answer some quick questions.. 1 do you think it was both drugs or mainly just the imuran? Second was she peeling her lips during treatment? Thirdly was she applying any moisturizer to her lips during treatment? 4th how long did it take for medicine to begin to show improvnement? 5th how long will she stay on medicine for and do you think its fully cured her lips as in if she stops medicine her lips will still be 100% normal??? Thanks heaps look forward to your answers AND big thanks to your wife give her lots of joy and happiness because she deserves it and thank you so much for helping her and helping us!

1 I believe imuran is main drug. My wife used only Doxepin for 1 and half months, but nothing happened, lips kept peeling. After using imuran about 30 days, her lips had last peeling. After that her lips no more peeling. No moisturizer during treatment. Just use clean water to clean mouth after eating. It took 30~35 days for no more peeling lips. Up today, it been over 60 days, no more peeling lips. She stoped using imuran 2 days ago. Then, we will see what will happen in the future.

This is a reply to # 2,071,092We have great news and proof (pics) that Imuran 50mg for 6 weeks (1,1/2 month) will cure the peeling lips. we need to share this cure with our doctors so we can get the same treatment. i want to try imuran but i don't have health insurance and can't afford to see a doctor to get the prescription. Can someone here please try Imuran for 4 weeks and share your results with everyone?

This is a reply to # 2,071,013Its interesting to me that Imuran is used to treat Crohn's disease - and one of the symptoms of Crohn's is peeling lips - our derm sent us to a doctor gastroenterologist to see if it was Crohn's - he did not take it seriously because there were no other symptoms - but Crohns also starts in the 15 - 30 age range

This is a reply to # 2,071,162I think with Crohn's disease, one has severe diarrhea on a regular basis, but it could be irritable bowel syndrome which also causes inflammation in the intestines. There are a lot of conditions that can cause inflammation, though.

This is a reply to # 2,071,179"Azathioprine (Imuran) and mercaptopurine (Purinethol). These are the most widely used immunosuppressants for treatment of inflammatory bowel disease. If you're taking either of these medications, you'll need to follow up closely with your doctor and have your blood checked regularly to look for side effects, such as a lowered resistance to infection. These drugs may also cause nausea and vomiting. These drugs also reduce inflammation, but they target your immune system rather than directly treating inflammation. By suppressing the immune response, inflammation is also reduced."

I have a question now that she is cured does she drink beverages normally and let her lips get in direct contact with liquids? Do they not turn white anymore? Also do they feel hard at all or are they soft and flexible? Has she tried swimming? We need to share this cure with our doctors so we can get the same treatment. Who will try Imuran now and be the next person to be cured by Imuran?

Also f you don't mind your wife's name at least first name so he knows what condition were talking about... Also you never really spoke about what your doctors diagnosis was and his thoughts were on the condition?

This is a reply to # 2,071,315Hi I really want to try this medication, given the side effects I think it might be tricky getting doctors to prescribe but I will try, however I also searched another similar drug designed for crohns etc which might not have the major side effects of Imuran (suppresses your immune system so much you have to avoid direct sunlight for risk of skin cancer!) , there is another new drug called vedolizumab - although not sure if available and approved as yet : http://www.foxnews.com/health/2013/08/22/new-treatment-could-help-those-with-...
