"I am convinced within that when sleep apnea is not a structural issue it is due to some type of defeciency, brain issue, or genetics.."
The primary cause of sleep apnea is - structural/obstructive. It has been and is observed in patients with sleep apnea. You are right, there is a brain problem that can cause it as well.
I have spent nights in a sleep lab under watchful human observation while having more than 20 wires hooked up to me. Those wires monitored my brain and heart activity along with my muscle activity. I'll take the diagnosis that came out of those sessions any day over your unsubstantiated guess at the cause of apnea.
Since wearing a CPAP mask that keeps my mouth closed and a positive air pressure on my breathing, I sleep much, much better and no longer wake up tired and no longer have the potential of death from a lack of breathing. Yes - I am no longer in danger of death from stopping breathing during my sleep - something that is common with people with untreated sleep apnea of all ages.
