This is a reply to # 2,042,804i asked her and got the usual 'different for everyone' reply... but i've been doing her protocal for about a month and my lips are way, way better than they were when i first saw her... i'm not fully healed yet but i feel like i will be sometime in the next couple months if things keep progressing like this... last few days it seems like large areas of my lips are outright healed.

This is a reply to # 2,042,854So what's the next step after we stop the peeling? For example, my lips aren't building up as much as before but I still have a little buildup so I'm going to continue with the aquaphor until the peeling completely stops but what should I do after that? Should I continue using aquaphor or should I start applying a steroid cream?
Oh btw I'm actually using the aquaphor lip repair not the regular aquaphor. I guess the lip repair is more like a lip balm but it seems to be working just fine, I'm not sure if that makes a difference.- Re: Mike MikePylon

This is a reply to # 2,042,863Yeah I can do anything with my lips at this point as far as day to day activities. I eat whatever I want ect... I'm just very sanitary about it and carry my saline solution, some q tips and my prevex wherever I go.
Only thing is for MMA I need to be fully healed because I'm not about to start sparring or wearing a mouth guard until I'm fully healed. I can really only do limited work in the gym right now.

Unfortunately we don't really know the answer to that yet.
But I think doing the treatment that Mike's doctor has had success with is the way to go. That's what I'm going to do.

Healing weren't you supposed to take a week off after 2 weeks of your current steroid cream? Are you going to do it or are you just going to start applying the prevex right away?- Re: Mike Healing2021

They are usually damp though because I apply it after I rinse with saline solution and water... just not soaked like I used to put the desonide on.

This is a reply to # 2,042,956Hi, I'me new here, and I've read a lot since yesterday. First of all it's great that you share all your experiences, it's very interesting and useful.
However, I'm not so sure if that treatment is going to work in the long run. I mean the Prevex and the saline solution. I got a laser treatment some time ago on my face and I used the same procedure you are using. It worked great for the regular skin, but I'm not so sure if it's going to work on the lips.
Why? well, because I got EC because a dermatologyst recommended cortisone. It worked great to stop the crusting, and the inflammatory reaction, but my lips were red during all the treatment. After I ended the treatment, the lips looked very normal, but the red color. Unfortunately, the crusting and everything came back again in less than 48hrs, and it was worse than before.
I've also tried Vaseline and Aquaphor, both didn't work. I've read that mineral oil is not good for a damaged mucous membrane. Vaseline and Aquaphor are based on mineral oil.
I'm just guessing, but I think the dermatologyst has given you a treatment for regular skin and not for damaged lips. It would be interesting to know, what would happen if you stop the treatment.
Do you know know much longer the treatment would last ?

I did a laser resurfacing, but that was about 2 years ago.
I got EC after I got a biopsy on my lower lip 4 months ago. The result of the biopsy was negative, and unnecessary. I've seen 7 doctors since I started with this problem, and they told me it was uncecessary. Before the biopsy I was fine, I just had a freckle on my lower lip. It was something preventive. I still regret of that decision.
Now all my life has changed. I did the biopsy to prevent a possible cancer, and now I'm living a hell.

I have no idea what prompted that reaction. He was simply asking you a harmless question and you act like he's insulting you.
And he's right, first you said cortisone caused it, then you said that a biopsy caused it.
So when you contradict yourself and then respond in a hostile way when someone asks you to clarify, it makes me question your credibility altogether. From the outside it looks like you just got caught in a lie

This is a reply to # 2,043,940I think the point is that Mike's dermatologist has advised him to continue the treatment until the red colour you speak of has gone away. Only then will the crusting truly stop.

This is a reply to # 2,044,005Yes there is still inflammation. The redness and tenderness is there but both have gone down greatly since I have been using a steroid.
An outsider would not notice at all.
Actually my bottom lip seems to be improving much more than my top.
But the affected area still has that shiney look, but when I went to see my derm I took off all the Aquaphor and I noticed that in that hour without anything in my lips, the affected skin looked more normal than ever.
So I wonder if maybe the affected skin hasn't turned to a normal texture because I have had ointments on it for so long.Advertisement

On one of the treatment I did, it happened exactly that. Unfortunately, the healing sensation lasted not much, in less than 48hrs. without anything, the dryness and crusting process started again.
On another treatment I tried without steroids, the healing sensation lasted for 5 or 6 days. The dryness process was slower.
I don't know, maybe my doctors suspended the treatements too soon.
I hope it's not your case. I'm very interested to know about your progress. I'll follow your updates.

This is a reply to # 2,044,140Yeah my lips haven't been peeling for about 3.5 months. And I plan on using this steroid until the inflammation is gone. Which apparently can take months.
And then when it's healed I will taper off with hydrocortisone 1%

I use Baush and Lomb sensitive eyes...
I wouldn't be too worried about it having any toxic chemicals... stuff is meant for the eyes... and if you do experience any discomfort just don't use it :p

This is a reply to # 2,043,447i just kind of spray it on the bottle nozzle on my lips over the sink and let it soak for a bit and then rinse it off... theres probably a better way you can do this so you dont waste as much though.
