Our boxer has been exhibiting some symptoms lately,and sadly we don't even have enough money to bring him to the vet...his breathing has been short,he's been hacking,and it looks like he's losing weight. Everything else is normal,his eating and bathroom habits.

The symptoms you are describing we experienced with one of our dogs. She was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and died later of a stroke. She slept fine and ate as normal during this time.
My advice would be to google the symptoms. There are a lot of natural health vets who give advice on the Internet.
