Could it be a change in the body's needs for electrolytes and minerals? I've had recent changes in water needs myself as well.
I find starting the morning with a warm broth of
Seasalt s (about 1/2 teaspoon) gives a really good start. I try to go for 1 annd 1/2 liters of water too.
Gut motility can be helped by a combination of vit D and magnesium. If the consipation gets bad, try supplemental magnesium, like magnesium citrate powder in warm water. Magnesium is one of the major factors in helping water to flow freely about intra-cellular walls, and mag. Citrate has been used for ages in hospitals as a gentle laxative.
I tried a
Liver Flush (huldara clark style) not that long ago, and I felt rather good after the first two portions of
Epsom Salt water. It tasted like utter crap though!
The simplest way to let your body move the material though would be to
Water Fast until the gut clears on it's own, though. A compacted constipation generally points to that your body needs more water for some reason. Salts help you retain the water you need for digestion- boron from apples, raisins and nuts can help you hold on to the magnesium you absorb from your greens.
I'm a fan of VitD3 for how it improves gut health, meself. It maximizes your uptake of vital minerals.
