So I just received my saliva test results back last night.
I had the cortisol 4x with DHEA with sex hormones.
Turns out that I have slightly high cortisol first thing in the morning upon waking. Lab comments said this is probably because of the overnight fasting.
Level was 9.6 (normal range 3.7-9.5)
Then it dropped drastically around 1pm
Level was 0.9 (normal range 1.2-3.0)
Then for evening (6;30pm) and bedtime (11pm) the levels were normal.
Levels were 1.7 and 0.7
DHEA and testosterone were both in normal ranges (8.7 and 39)
Oddly enough, the worst were the Estradiol and Progesterone levels
Estradiol was 0.6 (normal range 1.3-3.3)
Progesterone was the worst- 18 (normal range 75-270!)
So I'm not estrogen dominant (I THINK) but according to the report I should be in menopause. I'm only 29 :(. Haven't had a period in 4 months.
Can anyone share any insight as to why the cortisol levels would drop so fast but then stabilize toward the evening? These results came after I started high dose vitamin c, which gave me my energy and basic functionality back. I'm thinking that maybe some licorice right after breakfast (around 11 or so) would help keep the levels a bit more stable?
Ladies- if you have any insight into the whole estrogen/progesterone factor please do share! I don't know much about these hormones and how to balance them. I know that I have low thyroid (waiting for the new results to come back) but I don't exhibit the classic hypothyroid symptoms (excessive weight gain/depression/ puffy eyes/brittle nails).
My hair is falling out by the root in massive amounts and I've got stubborn yeast infections. Plus I get breakouts so bad that I look like I'm going through puberty again!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

This is a reply to # 2,005,943Your estrogen isn't as severely low as you progesterone. IMO your progesterone is so low that you do in fact have estrogen dominance.

This is a reply to # 2,006,031Ahhh that's what I suspected SB. I guess I was in denial! From what I understand, estrogen dominance is pretty common in a person with AF and low thyroid. Weird thing is that I've actually lost weight and have had trouble even putting on a few pounds. My hair analysis said I was a fast oxidizer with a body state of catabolism, which I imagine would typically be contradictory in the case of hypothyroid which would make the metabolism slow down. Blood test confirmed I am hypo. So confusing!
The lab test had comments. It said that low progesterone causes both high and low estrogen, and that I could possibly find relief in natural progesterone supplementation.
"Testosterone and DHEAS are within normal ranges but symptoms are characteristic of both high and low androgens. Testosterone and the weaker androgen, DHEAS, are often more androgenic (high androgen symptoms observed) when estrogens or progesterone are low as both have anti-androgenic properties (note: these hormones are low on this test). Additional symptoms of androgen deficiency, such as low libido, fatigue and depression, are more likely due to other hormonal imbalances such as low thyroid (note: symptoms indicate thyroid deficiency) or adrenal gland imbalance (high or low cortisol) caused by excessive stressors."
Then it went on to say that my adrenals are fatigued and that the high cortisol in the morning is due to hypoglycemia from overnight fasting. It suggested B5 and Vitamin C, which I am already on. Also said that low progesterone contributes to AF.
So I guess I'm in desperate need of some progesterone. I'm just wary of trying to supplement that myself because I don't want to throw anything off balance. I've heard of using chaste tree, maca, and rhidiola but I'm gun shy due to all the horrible reactions I've had in the past

MoreThis is a reply to # 2,006,104Faith, you would be surprised to see how many people with Hypothyroidism are actually underweight -ie catabolic state. I am one and I researched the topic, it happens.
If you are gonna use a herb, I do reccomend maca. Helps with libido, mood, mind and energy (a bit on everything but especially libido). I think it has an stabilizing effect on hormones, but from what I know it benefits women more.- Re: My saliva test results are in Faith110

I've been looking at maca for awhile now and I think I am going to try it. I get so anxious when it comes to trying new supplements because I've taken things in the past that were supposed to help me but actually made me feel much worse. I haven't had a crash in a good 3 weeks now and not really looking to cause another one.
I have heard of rare cases of hypothyroidism where people actually lose weight. When I first learned I was hypothyroid, I went to the hypothyroid forum to try and learn more from others who have been dealing with the condition for longer and I think they were mad at me! So many of them are desperately trying to lose weight and there I was telling them that I desperately needed to gain it! Some of them were actually jealous, as twisted as that is!
This has been such a rollercoaster...I'm not sure which deficiency to treat first. I've been working on my adrenals primarily, but I feel I need to address some of these other imbalances too, which I'm sure are adding stress to my body. I just don't want to start throwing a bunch of stuff at my body and set myself back again, as I feel that I am finally out of stage 3-4 and closer to stage 2. So frustrating!

Welcome to the club :) I get my cortisol testing done through zrt labs, but I order my kits through canaryclub.org because their prices are the most affordable. If you've never had the test before I would recommend the comprehensive saliva test that includes the 4x cortisol, dhea, and sex hormones to give you the best idea of what's going on.
