Hi, I just wanted to share where I'm at in my battle against candida, hypothyroidism, and adrenal fatigue, and get some feedback on my treatment. About 7 weeks ago I started levothyroxine as prescribed by my doctor (50mcg) after a long fight with adrenal fatigue. My MD saw no adrenal problems so I figured hypothyroidism to be my main problem and trusted her. 3 days into my dosing I got signs of hyperthyroidism and was feeling manic and about to lose it, so I went down to 25mcg and started to feel a little better. At the same time, I saw my naturopath for the first time and she put me on st john's wort, glutithione, ashwagandha, milk thistle, sf722, probiotics and stress b complex. After getting on ashwagandha I had a severe reaction to it. I was getting extremely dissociated, fearful, out of breath, confused, headaches, racing heart, and insane thoughts. I was only on it for 3 days but it was really rough, so I called my ND and she had me discontinue it. I felt a little better after a week of being off it, but then eventually the dose of 25mcg levothyroxine became too much for me. I was again getting symptoms of hyperthyroidism. I talked to my MD a little over a week ago and she got me down to 12.5mcg, but she doesn't think it will help, and doesn't recognize that I have adrenal problems, so there's not much I can do at her clinic besides get my labwork done for free. At the same time I saw her, I got a lot of labwork done. Here are some of the noteable results.
Potassium 3.5
TSH 10.3 (down only from 11 a month prior)
RCB HCT HGB and platelet count all low (pancytopenia: this has been going on for a while.)
Alpha 2 .47
Beta 0.49
Also, I found out I am iron deficient.
During my visit with my naturopath today, she got me off of all the old supplements I was on for candida (e, d, biotin, molebdenum, pantothenic acid, and other various things), and now I am just on st johns wort, glutithione, vitamin c, milk thistle, stress b complex, iron citrate, sf722, probiotics, and ginseng supreme. It seems like a good regimen but the ginseng was too much for me today (5 drops). My ND said that the reason I had such a bad experience with the thyroid medication is because my adrenals are too weak and they need to be taken care of before I can go any further with my thyroid problem. She said because my adrenals are so sensitive, that the best route would be the liquid ginseng because I can start at a very small dosage, see how I feel, and work my way up. I'm hoping if I cut down to 2 drops tomorrow I'll feel better. Today I had some positive effects from it (more energy and heightened ability to focus), but the negative effects were too much (racing heart, fast non-sensical thoughts, minor chest pain and tightness, headache, worn out). I'm just wondering what people think of this situation and what questions should be raised to my ND, and what changes (if any) I should implement into my treatment. If anybody has been through anything similar and can share what's worked for them that would be great. I just need more information anywhere I can get it, so i can make informed decisions and fight this health crisis the right way. Please post back. Thanks.
