Yes, the Mirena caused me to start shedding hair after about a year of having it in. It's a pretty universal problem, I would say. Please have the IUD removed! Hair loss has been frustrating for me but not nearly as scary as the other problems I've developed from the IUD.

I am a mother of two terrific children, with a loving husband and I'm a nursing student. I had mirena inserted four an a half years ago, after, the birth of my second child. My hair loss began about 16 months later. The OBGYN told me it was not mirena causing my hair loss. He said, "if Mirena was to blame it would have started within a couple of months of insertion." Over the years I've had so many blood test all with normal results. I was beginning to give up until I found websites like this one, allowing women to share their stories. I finally had mirena removed four months ago. Yesterday I started my second real cycle since removal of mirena. I experienced lots of cramping but only lost 2 hairs in the shower. At one point I was losing upwards of 350-400 hairs per day. Plus new hair is beginning to grow. I can see my scalp in many places now, mostly at the front of my head. After many nights of research, now I know that 1 in 5 women have severe hair loss with this drug. Please take it out before you have anymore side effects.
