Heading to candida forum next. Just a little leery. Have spent thousands over the years with no results.
I still feel the best way to address Candida is to restore the flora. People waste so much time trying to kill the Candida not realizing that Candida is a natural part of the body. So they are never going to destroy it. One surviving cell can multiply flaring up the candidiasis again if the terrain is not changed to make it hostile to the Candida. The Candida flourishes in an alkaline environment, which is why the destruction of the lactic acid forming Lactobacillus and Bifidus bacteria leads to candidiasis.
Cultured foods and prebiotics are the most effective way to restore the acid producing flora.
Blood pressure has been high since teen years and prednisone doesn't help,
Prednisone raises blood pressure by promoting potassium loss and sodium retention.
There are actually numerous causes of high blood pressure. I just did a post on the some different causes and treatments for high blood pressure. Here is the link and my post is under James_S:
http://www.webanswers.com/health/disease-conditions/controlling-high-blood-pr...
but since taking 400mg of 5-htp have had perfect BP.
5-HTP is a precursor for serotonin, which can either raise or lower blood pressure depending on the receptors stimulated.
Thanks for your interest.
Your welcome.
HV, after researching your posts concerning kidney disease, I have more info and questions.
I now realize I have kidney disease, not sure what level, but I feel lousy. Along with surface temp I am extremely tired.
I am going vegetarian and quitting caffeine. My diet has been pretty limited for the last few years. Do I have to cut out all protein or just animal based?
With kidney issues you need to be careful about consuming too much protein overall. As protein is broken down you are going to increase your uric acid levels. Caffeine also raises uric acid. If the uric acid is not completely hydrolyzed with plenty of water then the uric acid can pass through the kidneys in a crystalline form causing kidney damage or the crystals can build up in the kidneys leading to uric acid stones.
What about nuts, eggs, peanut butter or seafood?
Same as above. We do not need much protein. Only about 3 ounces of protein a day. Anything above that is waste and puts a burden on the liver and kidneys. Keep in mind though that things like meats and nuts are not pure protein. So a 16 ounce steak is only about 3 ounces of protein.
I also have some licorice root and jiagolin?
Licorice root is great for the kidneys and inflammatory disorders. Jiaogulan is great for the adrenals, blood flow, controlling cholesterol, etc.
powder from 2009 after my appendix burst which I learned from you. It's been kept in glass jars with screw lids. Is it still good to use?
Yes.
Also what is the best way to take it? Mix with cold water? I mixed it with herbal tea before, but I thought I saw something you posted awhile back that boiling water destroys it or am I wrong on that?
I generally take herbs by placing the powders under my tongue, taking a big mouth of water, swishing and swallowing. I rarely make teas since some compounds in herbs can be destroyed by heat. Tincturing also shortens the shelf life of herbs considerably so I tend to avoid tinctures as well. Not all herbs are adversely affected by heat though. The anti-inflammatory compound in licorice root for example is not affected by heat. Neither are the sterols in jiaogulan. So you can use these either way. I do drink jiaogulan sun tea throughout the summer. Generally the herbs I would really avoid making teas from most of the time would be the ones used for their high vitamin content or that have other unstable compounds such as some alkaloids.
Went out and bought some malic acid. It has magnesium along with st johns wort. It was the only malic acid at whole foods. Is that ok?
Yes, this is fine. And the malic acid will help dissolve uric acid is your kidney stones are uric acid based.
Do u recommend a website or sites to buy the items I'll need to restore my kidneys?
Not really. Some of the best herbs for the kidneys you can pretty much buy anywhere such as nettle leaf, schisandra berry and licorice root.
For the last few years I wake up every morning with bloodshot eyes and I don't drink. Is that kidney or liver problems?
Could be allergies, which in Chinese medicine would be considered "kidneys" although kidneys in Chinese medicine also includes the adrenals. And allergies stem from adrenal dysfunction. A lack of vitamin A can also cause red eyes like this. Considering your caffeine use you mentioned in your last post I would lean more towards allergies.
Thanks for the responses. I am 'working on' consuming ALL of my supplements and, seriously, it may take a year or more. Many of them have passed their 'expire' date but I'm taking them anyway. I don't believe they 'go bad' but they might not be as potent.
Correct. Vitamins will deteriorate over time, but not the minerals. If people are still uncertain about their outdated supplements a good use for them is plant fertilizer.
I already have 5-htp so upping the doses is sure worth a try. I'd like to eventually get off my low dose xanax
Have you tried glycine in place of the Xanax? They do in essence the same thing.
Hello HV! I've had a 30+ year battle with candida, which was diagnosed by the medical community as crohns disease. After dealing with gastroenterologists for 15 years and getting no relief, I decided a lifetime sentence of constant office visits with only temporary relief was not for me. The only thing that controlled symptoms was prednisone, and except for occasionally being able to work my way off it, I continue taking 15mg/day.
Prednisone would not help candidiasis. It would likely make it worse. Prednisone can make a person with Crohn's feel better, but it will also make the underlying condition worse.
To make a long story shorter I have found a few things that have, if not cured the candida have made the symptoms dramatically better. I always had a positive attitude and thought I could beat what I called the "thing".
Reducing stress always helps.
Most MD's believe depression is the cause of gastro problems. It turns out that it's the exact opposite! 80% of serotonin is produced in the gut.
Yes, most of the body's serotonin is produced in the gut. This is because serotonin has other roles though such as intestinal peristalsis and blood pressure regulation. There are 18 different types of serotonin receptors in the body. From what I recall in research I did a while back the serotonin produced by the gut does not cross the blood-brain barrier. So the brain has to generate its own serotonin.
While researching on curezone last year a poster said he was taking 400mg of 5-htp and it had helped. I had taken 50mg 5-htp for years with no apparent results. In fact I had tried all kinds of supplements for years with nothing to show for it except empty bottles and an empty bank account.
Depression has numerous causes, not just low serotonin. So what works for one person will not always work for someone else.
Last June I started working my way up to 400mg/day starting with 100mg/day for a week and increasing 100mg/week. I started feeling better by the third week and once I hit 400/mg I felt great! I had energy, my fistulas healed and pain was gone! Had a slight relapse 2 months later and started taking high doses (6 capsules/day Garden of Life) of raw probiotic capsules. The gastro problems have pretty much gone away as long as I stay with low carb high protein diet and no sugar or alcohol.
Depending on the protein this may or may not be a good idea. Most animal proteins are high in the omega 6 fatty acid arachidonic acid that promotes inflammation.
Starting this Feb had pain that MD concluded was gall bladder. Had ultrasound, nothing showed up. April 8 went to emergency with FIRST EVER case of kidney stone. Pain went away next day but stone didn't pass. Starting what I thought was daily fever 3 days later, but temp reading were normal 97.9. Would feel like face and head was burning and very red. Had kidney stone removed surgically yesterday. It was pretty big 8mm x 5.5mm.
You need to have the stone analyzed to find out what kind it is. This can help determine what may have caused it to prevent future ones.
I don't do dairy in any form, but do use 5hr energy and coffee.
All that coffee is also going to increase inflammation in your body and can contribute to uric acid kidney stones.
The questions:
Is there any evidence of 5-htp causing kidney stones?
No.
What is the surface temp caused by?
I am not sure with such limited information. But it sounds like some sort of flushing, which is caused by dilation of the capillaries close to the surface of the skin.
What now? I finally beat this sonofbitchin candida, at least intestinally, I'm sure it is in all organs.
Working your way off all that caffeine would be a great start.
And again you need to determine what kind of stone you passed. There are numerous types of kidney stones.
Other than that it will depend on what symptoms you are still dealing with.
Thanks for the info. Sorry about the bitchy post regarding posts being ignored.
No problem.
I know you're busy but after finding this forum, and not getting the correct info on other forums, I really look to the truth in medicine for answers. Feeling lousy doesn't help either. Again very sorry. If you're not spending much time on curezone, are u on the internet anywhere?
Nowhere consistently. I am spending a lot of time writing the book and am composing more articles for online publication. If I do start posting somewhere more consistently I will inform everyone.
It's been 10 days since kidney surgery and I've been up and down healthwise. I think the antibiotics, anesthesia and extra steriods given me during surgery has caused the candida to flare.
Those will do it. Again, cultured foods and prebiotics are the best way to restore the flora and get Candida under control.
Today is better than 2 days ago but not as good as yesterday. Still using schisandra berry, malic acid and nettle leaf capsules and jiagolin and licorice root tea. Have discontinued coffee but need energy so still using smaller amount of 5hr energy. Haven't gotten results of stone composition yet. When I do will check back with you.
Sounds good.
