Hello,
I had the Mirena for about 2.5 years. I had it removed two months ago because I was experiencing pregnancy-like symptoms (headaches, nausea, fatigue) periodically, as well as some other side effects.
The first few weeks post removal I felt fine. Then, I got my first period and I started getting headaches. Now, it has been out for exactly two months and I have had a headache everyday for almost 3 weeks. Some days they are worse than others, but I always get some sort of headache at some point in the day.
My doctor ordered a CT scan and it came back normal. He thinks it could be related to coming off the mirena hormones, but I wanted to know if anyone else experienced this. Particularly how the headaches didn't start for a few weeks post-removal. Also, if anyone did experience this, how long did it take before the headaches stopped!!

MoreThis is a reply to # 1,907,111I know when I got my first period post removal all hell broke loose, it was the worst 3 weeks of my life. But to answer your question it seemed I would get the worst migraines in the evenings for about a month or so after that first period. I still get random headaches but not as painfull and not as long and not as often, I would say maybe once a month? Hope that helps a little

Thanks for your answer. I have had two periods since Mirena. After the first I had headaches off and on. But, since the second it has been headaches everyday. I just hope this stops soon!

This is a reply to # 1,907,111Yes!!! I've had horrible bouts of headaches since removal. I also had them with the IUD and while on the pill (started after my second pregnancy), but they were often migraines. THe migraines have stopped since removal, but the headaches are bad enough. For awhile they stopped after IUD removal, sometimes for several months at a time. They started up around 1 1/2 years post for me, but only during my period, just at the end of it. They're not severe, but obviously from the hormones.

I didn't have a period for about three months post. I would have throwing up migranes about mid way during the first few periods. It did go away after that and has not returned. I am thirteen days post yesterday. - Re: Headaches 2 months post-Mirena r... #192612

This is a reply to # 1,907,111So glad to have found this thread. I had my Mirena removed 6 weeks ago and for the past 2 weeks or so, I have either woken up with a terrible headache or experienced one at some point during the day. It seems like there are few times during the day when there isn't one in the "background."
This is very unusual for me because I rarely get headaches.
I know this thread is old, but I wondered how long it took for your headaches to go away. I haven't found a place anywhere, except here, that addresses this after effect.

This is a reply to # 2,225,741I am so glad I seen your post. I had mine removed just over two weeks ago. I've already had several migraines but have awakened the last two mornings with one. There is little relief from them.

This is a reply to # 1,907,111I know this post is old, but I have just found it while searching. I had the Mirena removed about 10 months ago after the full 5 year stint. I also started experiencing headaches after about two months, but only during my periods and they seem to be getting worse every month now.
Did you manage to find a solution at all? Anything else you can tell me to help?
