Hey there James. Hope you had wonderful holidays.
Thanks, yes they were very nice.
So, I battled hormones and high cortisol for the entire year of 2011. I'm now starting out this year pregnant! Yep, it was a WTH? for me. October is when I started taking Seriphos and bioidentical hormones. Very low dose of progesterone and testosterone, as my testosterone was incredibly low, my estro/prog was way off balance and I was having extremely high night time cortisol.
I really do not care for hormone testing. It is not very accurate.
Apparently taking these things was enough to make me fertile which I really don't think I have been for years. I turn 41 in a couple of days by the way. UGH!
Before I started on the hormones I would get these totally mental episodes around that time of the month.
That is from the rise in progesterone.
I have been dealing with anxiety around this time for a few years. The hormones made the crasies go away. The crasies are just feelings of something bad is going to happen to me. Like empending doom but on a health level. I don't get into a panicking stage but its like the fear of such an event. Since I found out I am pregnant, about 8-10 wks along, I quit taking everything except B vits, Rose Hips and Vit D3.(I see my ND) next week)I have been feeling pretty good but have experienced the crasies a couple of times now. I also have several episodes during the day where my heart pounds heavily but not rapidly. It does freak me out. I have this extreme fear of something being wrong with the pregnancy due to my poor health.
I must say though that I don't feel the effects of cortisol like I once did. I don't get wired and have crashes, and my pupils don't pulsate anymore. I tolerate light alot better. Before I got pregnant I was also taking Ashwaghanda, Astragalus, Holy Basil and Hawthorne Berries. I quit taking all of it, but am wondering what would be safe to take.
Yes, these would be safe as long as you are not allergic. You could also do the lecithin granules to help suppress the cortisol.
I am definitely getting some Rasberry Tea. I have been searching and searching on what would be safe because I know I'm not all back to normal. Is Holy Basil okay?
Yes, but I prefer nettle leaf in the case of pregnancy since it is more nutritious and supporting of the endocrine system.
And what about Hawthorne Berries? I was taking that when I had those pounding heart episodes previously.I know the others I mentioned are a no go.
They will not affect the pregnancy. But the only reason they would cause a pounding heart is if you were allergic. So it would be best to avoid them for now.
So far the pregnancy seems fine. I have the lovely nausea.
Small amounts of ginger, such as sipping on ginger tea will help this. Just don't take a lot of ginger at once since it is a uterine stimulant in high doses.
I've had 2 miscarriages in my life at earlier stages and was way healthier than I am now. Hopefully I can relax soon as a few more weeks go by. Would love your insight and suggestions as always.
The red raspberry leaf is the best choice to help prevent miscarriage. And again I highly recommend the nettle leaf for nutritional and glandular support.
Limit spices in your diet as well as carrots since these can stimulate uterine contractions.
