I know bitters are good but I can't tolerate them... Also betaine HCL should not be taken long term.
So, is Trimethylglycine the best choice to increase stomach acid?
Yes. Zinc is also very helpful with increasing stomach acid formation. Zinc supplements should be taken with larger meals to prevent nausea and do not exceed 50mg daily.
Can it be taken long term?
Yes, TMG is safe long term.
James, what do you suppose causes low gastric acid over time?
I think the primary reason is decreased methylation. Methylation is required for the production of stomach acid. Although as stomach acid decreases this also reduces the absorption of the nutrients needed to produce stomach acid. And as stomach acid decreases people tend to get heartburn and take antacids and acid blockers, which in turn further leads to the nutrient deficiencies that interfere with stomach acid formation.
Interesting theory! You would think that nature (God) carefully planned backup routes (I'll call them) for situations like these.
In a way I think those backup routes do exist. For example acids in our foods, bitters that stimulate acid release and methyl donors found in some food sources.
I think it's vital to understand the symbiotic relationship between nature, God & human health... don't you agree?
Yes.
With that being said... I think using that model can help to overcome the 'walls' of proper health and understanding.
Just my two cents. I'll go over something with you when you get the chance to respond back.
