I recently went to the Dr because I have not been feeling ggod for sometime ( since December). I was having summertime allergies and nasty cough, runny nose, and just felt extremely tired and 'bad'. Plus after I taughter 2 classes on Friday I went home and just could not stay awake - even though they are challenging classes I have in the past been able to teach as many as 4 and be just fine - I knew something was wrong with me - perhaps my hormones or just allergies
The Dr did a blood test and told me take this cough medicine with codine in it, and she also gave me zyithromax, allergy medication as well as the nexgt day calling me and telling me that she called some steroids (Methryl ?????something) into the pharmacy (which I did not take). During the appointment I was told my resting heart rate was 106 and my blood pressure was 160 over 84. My lungs sounded very badly and she sent me to have them x-rayd. she also did an EKG even though I said that she should check it manually again. I am an Aerobics Instructor and teach 9 to 12 classes a week. I know what my blood pressure is and has always been as well as my resting heart rate. The EKG came out normal as did the xrays of my lungs.
The blood test came back with the TSH level being 0.008. She said that this means Hyperthyroidism.
The appointment seemed unprofessional and money/insurance hungry. I was basically given unnecesdsary tests (I thought) and given drugs and sent home. FRUSTRATING to say the least
Here is where I am getting scared. I am 35 (tomorrow). My sister has graves disease and she developed it at the same age. Her daughter has hypothyroidism. After witnessing the effects it had on my sister especially after the radioactive
Iodine (she developed tumors, lost her hair, she now weighs over 300 and had a kidney removed because of tumors as well as has to use an oxygen tank because of tumors in lungs. I would really like to make some kind of change now so I can hopefully avoid becoming full blown. I am a group Fitness Instructor by profession and truely love what I do but lately I feel like my body cannot handle it - like I am deteriorating. Over the last 2 months I have gained 15
lbs. That is probably because I dont really watch waht I eat taching so many classes and all. I do take my calcium and my vitamins and I have started supplementing with protein drinks. I really need my stamina back and would like some advice on things I should be doing.
The Dr. told me tht I will develop Graves disease at sometime in the future. I am saying no I will Not. I work to hard too keep myself in shape to allow this to strip it from me
Please help me.
P.S I am supposed to be getting married this fall and I have not told my BF about this yet. He is 17 years older and I am afraid that it will change things between us. We have been together 8 years. I could just be worrying too much - but has anyone out there lost a significant relationship due to this condition?
I appreciate all of you thoughts and advice
