Note the graph is on a logarithmic scale! The graph demonstrates the amazing improvements in solar technologies energy efficiency over just a few decades. This technology can end our dependence on foreign oil (and the massive military costs to secure it) and the dirty burning fossil fuel coal. With continued investment the technology can advance with the dedicated genius of scientists and innovators. They have already pushed us this far forward, government stimulus in this area is justifiable if done intelligently.
Compared to nuclear power (which has rising costs to ensure it's safety, and especially now in light of the Fukushima disaster), solar power has reached a historic crossover point, to become the cheaper option.

Apple’s iPod would cost $1 billion and be the size of a building."
